He was then brought to the residence of his son-in-law, Ernest Krause, where every possible attention was given him and where his children gathered to do all that loving hearts could suggest for his comfort, but all human efforts were unavailing and passed peacefully away on Monday, surrounded by his loved ones. Hew was born at Cohocton, Stuben county, N. Y., July 12, 1829, and came to Michigan in 1840, settling in the township of Genoa, in this county where he was married to Miss Eunice Reed. The union proved to be a happy one and to them were born four children, two boys and two girls, Mrs. Fred Metcalf of Holland, Marshall Barnard of Detroit, and Edward Barnard and Mrs. Ernest Krause of this place, all of whom with his bereaved wife still survive him. In 1857 he removed with his wife to Conway where he remained until 1871 when they came to this township and settled just east of this village on the farm where they continued to reside until his death. He was a tender husband, a kind father and leaves a large number of warm friends who will sincerely mourn his loss. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Wednesday morning at 10:00, the Rev. J. E. Ryerson officiating.
