MCKEAN AGED 91 YEARS, NEARLY PASSED TO HIS FINAL REWARD THRUSDAY, JULY 8th Comrade Andrew J. McKean, a veteran of the Civil War and an esteem member of Wadell Post, No.120, Department of Michigan G.A.R. died at the family home in Howell Thursday, July 8, 1926, age 90 years, 11 months and 15 days. The funeral from the M. E. church Saturday was attended by a large number of friends and relatives, the ladies of the W. R. C. and three comrade of the Grand Army of the Republic and one of them, Frank Jordan on crutches. Burial in Lakeviem Cemetery, Howell. Andrew J. Mckean was born July 22, 1835 in the town of Ridgeway, Orleans county, New York and departed this life July 8, 1926, at Howell, Mich. at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 15 days' When a young man he came to Michigan and settle in Kent county. He was united in marriage May 22, 1859 to Jennie A. Cardinal of Paris, Ken5t County, MIchigan, who departed this life February 25, 1911. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Norma Dean of Howell, Ervin of Cohoctah and Erwin who departed this life ten years ago. Besides his two children he leaves seven granddaughters, 24 great grandchildren, neices,nephews and ahost of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor, always trying to do do a good turn for all whom he could. In 1860 he moved to Howell, Mich. where he has since spent nearly all his life. He enlisted August 15, 1862 at Howell and was mustered into the U. S. service at Jackson, MIch. September 10th, 1862 as a private to serve three years in Company E, 26th Michigan Volunteer Infantry under John Custer and Chas. E. Grisson. He was engaged in both private and specisl duty. He was injured by a horse at Kellys' Ford, Va., treated in hospital at Washington D.C. also acted as clerk as Chester hospital, then to McClellan hospital at Philadelphia, Penn was mustered out of service and honorably discharged June 10th, 1865. Mr. McKean was said to be the last member of Company E, 26th Michigan Volunteer Infantry to answer the last roll coll. Additional Comments: I found this copy of the Obit in some of old pictures my mother had of her mother's. Andrew Jackson Mckean was my ggggrandfather, his daughter Mrs. Norma Dean was my gggrandmother.
