FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION *see history below - Additional Comments: This sign is at the road entrance to the cemetery. Inside the cemetery at the entrance to the graves is another sign. This cemetery is located at 261 S. Island View Rd. in Hessel, Mackinac County, Michigan. The cemetery is maintained and regulated by the Native American Society for Historical Preservation. The cemetery was formerly called, Father Marquette Indian Cemetery but in 2003 was changed to its deeded name of Old Mission Indian Cemetery. Most of the graves are Ojibwa Native Americans from the Sault Tribe.
