The following statements can be found in the Washington Township offices for the Cannon Cemetery within 'The Cannon Burying Ground Association' meeting minutes of July 27, 1980. 'This Cannon Cemetery owned and occupied a strip of land 140 ft wide adjoining the Washington Township Cemetery and contiguous along its North-South, Eastern boundary. The area of the Cannon Cemetery is 0.954 acres. It was originally landscaped with one 80 foot diameter mound to contain all burials and grave marker, plus a main central monument to display all names and dates. This mound is nearly filled with existing graves. Its remaining vacant areas are reserved for future burials of those who can establish a family blood relationship however remote. The central monument may, by special arrangement, also display names and dates of family members buried elsewhere. The 80 foot diameter mound occupies about 1/8 of the Cannon Cemetery. The balance of this cemetery can be landscaped and allotted as future demands and deeds dictate'. 'The Alexander Macomb Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution (D A R) now own this Cannon Cemetery together with its endowment and will be responsible for providing, in perpetuity, supervision, maintenance, proper use, and care'. 'President Helen Bernfield called special attention to the new bronze plaque mounted at the cemetery entrance'. The Washington Township offices also have the following people as Veterans: Ellery C. Cannon 1861-1865 Co. B-22nd Mich. Vol. Inf. Levi H. Cannon 1861-1865 Co. B-22nd Mich. Vol. Inf. Stephen B. Cannon 1861-1865 Co. B-22nd Mich. Vol. Inf. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 'CANNON' family name is engraved into the face of the step that leads into the circular burial grounds. ** CANNON Family Monument ** There is an octagon shaped stone pillar in the center of the circular burial layout for the CANNON family.
