Nelson Died March 27, 2005 ARCADIA - Virgil I. Nelson, 80, of Arcadia, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at his residence. He was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Arcadia, the son of Harry and Mary (Jensen) Nelson. Virgil was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and earned the Bronze Star Medal for his efforts. He was a lifetime member of the Bear Creek VFW Post #6333 in Kaleva. Virgil was a lifelong farmer, living and working on the farm where he was born and raised. He had served on the Arcadia Township Board of Review for many years and the Agricultural Stabilization Board, and he had also been active in 4-H. Virgil was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Leonard Nelson in 1980 and David Nelson in 2004; and two siblings during infancy. Visitation will be held this evening, March 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the First Congregational Church in Thompsonville, with Reverend Eugene Baughan officiating. Interment will be in the Conway Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church in Thompsonville. The Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
