THE MANISTEE  NEWS ADVOCATE - 1943 OBITUARY DEATH CLAIMS  FRED  BALSAM (PG. 3)  
July 12,- DEATH - came  to  Fred  W. Balsam, 85  of  Oxford  Court  Saturday  
morning  at  the  home  of  his  son  Alva L. Balsam, 1475 Chicago Blvd, Detroit
Mr. Balsam  had lived  here since 1868  having  came  to  the  city from  
Spring  Lake, Mich. Practiaclly  al  his  life  he  was  employed  by  Filer & 
Sons  and   after  the  death  of  Warren  Filer  in  1897  he  had  charge  
of  the  manufacture  of  lumber  and  salt  for  the  Filer  concern.  He  
retired  in  1908  after  Filer lumber operations  were  completed, His  wife  
Annie  Died  Sept. 12, 1942, on  the  couples  fifty-nineth wedding  
anniversary. He  is  survived  by  two children. Alva  of  Detroit  and  Mrs. 
Paul O. Germann  of  h=Hinsdale, ILL. , five  grandchildren & two  great-
grandchildren.  Funeral  services  will  be  held  Tuesday  afternoon  at  
2:30  from  Bradford  funeral home  with  the  Rev. Raymond  Boadway  
officiating.  Burial  will  be  in  Oak  Grove  Cemetery.
