 PLEASANTON TOWNSHIP - Lela "Doris" Harthun, age 75, of Manistee County's 
Pleasanton Township, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Tendercare of Manistee. She 
was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Pontiac, the daughter of the late Harley and Ada 
(Marvin) Slygh.
      Doris graduated from Kalamazoo High School. She was married to Bruce 
O'Leary for 20 years. He preceded her in death in 1984.
      Besides being a homemaker, Doris had her fingers in many jobs during her 
lifetime. She worked as a packer for Sawyer Fruit Company for many years, but 
her real passion was flowers. She enjoyed gardening of all kinds, and for a 
time owned and operated a flower shop in Albion. She was a member of Our Savior 
Lutheran Church of Benzonia.
      On Dec. 4, 1978, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama, Doris married 
Albert Harthun, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Colleen (Allan) 
Swanson of Bear Lake, a son, Patrick O'Leary of Jackson; two granddaughters, 
Shannan and Brittany; and several nieces and nephews.
      Mrs. Harthun was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Sean O'Leary, 
two brothers, Burt Slygh and Marvin Slygh; and four sisters, Rebecca Martin, 
Myrna Ulmer, Wilma Zaka and Ada Butler.
      Funeral services for Doris Harthun will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 
23, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 6790 Frankfort Hwy., Benzonia, with the Rev. 
Robert H. Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 
from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.
      Burial will follow in Pleasanton Township Cemetery, Bear Lake.
      Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Doris' name are asked to 
consider Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the church.
      The family has been served by Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home of Bear Lake.
