March 4 - Martin Temple, a workman at Phelp's lumber camp, arrested for stealing a watch. John McNaughton married. March 5 - Mercury 21 degrees below zeero. Second annual election in the village of Morley. March 6 - James E. Murdock; the elocutionist, delivered readings in Big Rapids. March 8 - Mrs. Elisha Cline died. March 11 - Mrs. sumner Stickney died. March 13 - Frank H. Graves married. Will M. Carleton delivered readings in Big Rapids. The Michigan Legislature met in special session. March 14 - Edward Freeman, a laborer at Ganong's lumber camp, killed by a falling limb. March 15 - Balance wheel bursted in Savercool & Co.'s mill at Morley. March 16 - Hose carts for the Big Rapids Fire Department arrived. March 18 - Thomas D. Stimson's dwelling burned. March 19 - Common council adopted a resolution to pay for publishing all their proceedings in both city papers. March 21 - Very cold the past week. Mercury this morning 16 degrees below zero. March 26 - A pauper named Race, had a frozen foot amputated at the Poor House. Same day, Geo. A. Morrisson, a lad of 14 sent to the Reform school for petit larceny. March 27 - Teachers' Institute commenced in Big Rapids. A train of cars on the G.R. & I. Railroad killed 21 fat hogs belonging to Samuel Bailey. March 28 - Lewis c. Gilbert, of Osceola held to bail for selling liquor to Indians. March 29 - Aloney Rust broke one of his legs. June 1- Benjamin Bowen, a laborer at Henry Escott's mill in Colfax, had an arm broken. June 3 - A regular term of Circuit Court, appointed to commence in Lake county to-day, went by default, the judge not appearing. June 6 - the Magnet closed its second volume. June 14 - Fire alarm bell hung in cupalo of first Ward Firemen's Hall. Andrew Hover, had an arm injured in Tioga Company's saw-mill. June 19 - S.D. thompson resigned as Superintendent of Water Works, and H.M. Johnson appointed. June 20 - William McGregor instanly killed and terribly mangled, in Stimson's saw-mill. Resolutions severely censuring Judge Giddings, and demanding his removal from office, adopted by the Osceola Board of Supervisors. June 23 - Severe fire at Paris, in this county. One hotel, two stores and one dwelling house burned. Dead body of a man found in the Muskegon River, at Croton, probably that of Miller, the supposed suicide. June 25 - Knight Templar's entertained at Muskegon by the Commandery of that city. June 27 - Spring term of the Big Rapids schools closed with a pic-nic.
