All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ PASSED AWAY LAST WEEK - April 24, 1902 Benjamin Dalziel Died Friday Afternoon Before One O'Clock Although Mr. Dalziel passed a good night, and was next morning able to give directions in regards to certain farm work, his strength began to fail about the middle of the forenoon, and it soon became apparent that he was not to last long. His relatives in the city were summoned, and the end came about 12:45. His illness was the result of obstruction of the bowels caused by a loop of bowel becoming compressed and held by a fibrous band which had almost cut the bowel in two. The compressed loop of bowel was cut off and the ends of the intestine fastened together with a murphy button. His death was due to peritonitis, which has set in before the operation. Benjamin Dalziel was born in Ionia county, this state, Jan. 28, 1841. He was reared on a farm and trained in the pursuit of agriculture. He was educated in the common schools of Ionia county and resided at home until he was nine years old, at which time he accompanied his father to Newaygo county to reside. He came to this county at the age of 27, and located on the farm near the city on which he spent the remaining years of his life. In 1866 he married Harriet E. Miller, a native of Newaygo county and his wife and two daughters survive him, one daughter dying a number of years ago. One of the daughters is Mrs. George West, of Green township, and the other daughter is Mrs. Gay M. Brown, of Muskegon. James and John Dalziel are brothers of deceased. The funeral took place from the house on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
