Reached the End at Midnight

E.G. Haney, whose illness extended through a number of weeks, died at his home in the
third ward last night at about 12 o'clock.

Deceased was born in Oswego, NY, May 10, 1832, and came with his parents to the
 Territory of Michigan when he was three years of age, his parents settling in Van 
 Buren township, Wayne County.  When he was fourteen years of age he went to Fort
Wayne, Ind., and learned the iron-molding business, which he pursued a number of 
years.  He came to Big Rapids in 1870, and in March of that year purchased an interest
in the foundry of Calvin Price and James J. Osborn.  The establishment was built  a
year previously and was devoted to the casting of stoves.    In May Mr. Haney bought
the interest of Mr. Price and in December became sole proprietor by purchasing the 
claim of Mr. Osborn.  He soon changed the character of the foundry products by manufacturing various kinds of moldings, castings, plow, etc., and in June 1874, he 
established the hardware store which he operated up to the time of death.  He was a 
member of Mecosta Lodge, No. 26, K. of P., of Big Rapids Council No. 174, Royal
 Arcanum and of Prosperity Tent, No. 135, Knights of the Macabees.  He was also a 
staunch Republican, and had served a number of years as a member of the Board of 
Education, and had also represented his ward on the Board of Aldermen.  In 1856 he
 married Miss Johanna Tate, the wedding taking place in Gratton Township, Kent County,
 and of the ten children born, seven are living, the oldest son now residing in 
Virginia, two married daughters and one son in Big Rapids, where the mother is still
living.  As a result of his being a member of the Royal Arcanum his family will come
into possession of $3000, and $2000 will fall to them on account of his membership in 
the Knights of the Maccabees.

The funeral will take place from the house tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, the 
services to be in charge of the Knights of Pythias.
