Covey, 88, of Stanwood, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at Altercare of Big Rapids. He was born May 17, 1908, to George F. and Sarah Daisy (Davis) Covey in Luther. He married Lucile Goodwin on June 30, 1933, in Belding, and lived near there until moving to the Stanwood area in 1947. He drove milk trucks for several local companies until he began farming full time on his own farm in Stanwood. He was active in the Stanwood community and had served as the Austin Township treasurer. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking for many years. He is survived by his wife, Lucile of Stanwood; two sons, Larry (Elly) Covey of Lutz, Fla., and Ben (Elma Jean) Covey of Stanwood; three daughters, Myrtle Stowitts of Santa Monica, Calif, Jeanette Hill of LaMesa, Calif., and Anona (David) Steeby of Wayland; two brothers, Ivan Covey of Harrison and Howard Covey of Cedar Springs; three sisters; Grace Slot of Grand Rapids, Jennie Goupell of Greenville and Leona Godell of Cedar Springs; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brockway Wesleyan Church at Three Mile Road and 110th Avenue in rural Morley, with the Rev. Roger Cooper officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Altercare of Big Rapids. Arrangements by Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home of Big Rapids.
