Cook Big Rapids Pioneer BIG RAPIDS - Irene L. Cook, 78, of Big Rapids, died Friday, April 25, 1997, at the Altercare Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Leeta (Olney) Doney, and moved to Big Rapids as a child. For many years, she worked as a cashier at the A&P Grocery in BIg Rapids. She was a long-time member of the United Church of Big Rapids, and was Past Noble Grand of the BIg Rapids Rebekah Lodge. On June 4, 1941, she married Vincent D. Cook, who preceded her in death in 1987. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Lou (John) Arnold of Manistique, two sons, Lynn (Brenda), and John, of Big Rapids; six grandchildren, Stacey, Cathleen, Terri, Christopher, Tyler and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, at the Rogers-Mohnke Funeral Home with Rev. Jon C. Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. A Rebekah memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. this evening (Monday) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to benefit handicapped children may be left at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Monday) and prior to services on Tuesday.
