The family of William and Mary Emma Fairbrothers and their two children Lois A. [age
2 1/2] and Edwin 
[Infant] were returning to their home in Millbrock, Mi from visiting family by train
in either Kent and/or 
Allegan County on the 5th of October 1876.  They were supposed to meet someone at
the "train station" in 
Morley but when they arrived there was no one waiting for them to take them home. 
They went to the 
National Hotel in Morley where they registered for the night.  Sometime near
Midnight a fire broke out in 
the hotel and the Hotel was destroyed.  Everyone got out of the hotel with the
exception of my Great 
Grandmother, Mary Emma Fairbrothers and her infant son Edwin.  Before the fire
consumed the building 
my Great Grandfather escaped and my Grandmother Lois was "tossed" out of a window to
someone below 
[possibly her father] and both survived.  

Additional Comments:
The only known surviving picture of the original headstone was recently found and
was dated 1955.  Notes 
on the back of the picture lead to the discovery and location of where the stone
could be found in Decker 
Cemetery.  A replacement stone was erected sometime after 1955 but by 2013 had
become unreadable.  
On 18 October 2014 a new stone was put up in their memory.  -mld-
