Obituary. TOBIAS--Mrs. Lura Tobias died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lillie Baugh in Battle Creek, Mich., on Jan. 7th, 1913, with heart trouble and old age, being 84 years, eight months and twenty-four days old. Was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Baltimore cemetery. Funeral at her daughter's in Battle Creek. Lura Edson was born in the state of Vermont, Sept. 3rd, 1828. She with her parents moved to the state of Ohio when only a small child. She was married to Ezra Tobias in 1843 and moved with her husband to Baltimore, Barry Co., Mich., in 1854, where she lived until her husband's death in 1898, when she went to live with her youngest daughter Lillie Baugh. There were six children, four girls and two boys, of whom two girls and two boys are still living, Mrs. Millie Grames of Rutland, W. O. Tobias of Shultz, Barry Co., J. E. Tobias of Urbandale, Battle Creek, and Mrs. Lillie Baugh of Battle Creek, besides 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Tobias was of a retiring, quiet disposition, her greatest pleasure was to be in her own home doing what she could for others, and was dearly loved by those who knew her best. This next obituary is probably from the Battle Creek News and Enquirer, 8 January 1913. Dies at Age of 84.--The death of Mrs. Lura Tobias, aged 84 years, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian Baugh, 412 West Main St., yesterday morning, from old age complicated with other diseases. Mrs. Tobias was a pioneer of Barry county, going there to live about 50 years ago. She has made her home with her daughter for the past 11 years, her husband dying a few years before that. Though she had made few acquaintances here, as she was of a quiet, retiring disposition, Mrs. Tobias was dearly loved by all who knew her well. She leaves four children. Mrs. Baugh, J. E. Tobias of Urbandale, Mrs. Millie Grames of Rutland, Barry County, and W. O. Tobias of Shultz, Barry county, besides 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the residence at 9 o’clock Friday morning, and burial will be made in the Baltimore [Dowling] cemetery in Barry county, on the family lot where her husband is buried. Her son, Jason Edson Tobias: J. E. TOBIAS, URBANDALE’S PIONEER, DIES Septuagenarian Was One Of Early Builders In Suburb. Jason E. Tobias, 78, a pioneer of the suburb of Urbandale, died at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lewis Abbott, 182 Grove street. He was born Feb. 11, 1861, on a farm near Dowling and lived there until the Spring of 1901, when he moved his family to Urbandale. One of the first to see the possibilities of the Urbandale location as an addition to Battle Creek, Mr. Tobias built several homes and store buildings there and during his residence in that neighborhood was active in community affairs, especially those designed to improve Urbandale as a residential section. he was interested in sports, especially baseball, and an ardent supporter of the Civic Recreation programs. Mr. Tobias was married Sept. 17, 1890 to Mary M. Slawson, of Johnstown township, Barry county, who died Dec. 9, 1918. He married Anna M. Hughes Jan. 1, 1920 and she died 17 years later, on Jan. 8, 1937. In addition to the sister at whose home he died Mr. Tobias leaves a daughter, Myrtle A. Wagner, of Grosse Pointe; a son, Carl, of Flint; three grandchildren, John A. Wagner, James and Richard Tobias; and several nephews and nieces. He was a member of Maple Methodist church for many years, but later transferred his membership to the Church of the Four-Fold Gospel. Funeral services will be held at the Farley Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. Raymond Fostekew, pastor of the Church of the Four-Fold Gospel. Burial will be at Bedford cemetery. His brother Willie: WILLIAM TOBIAS, BARRY SEPTUAGENARIAN, DIED Hastings, Aug 12, William O. Tobias, 75, retired Hope Township farmer, died at Pennock Hospital here at 8 o'clock this morning after a short illness. Born in Dowling, MI., Mr. Tobias was a lifelong resident of Barry County, making his home just east of Shultz. He is survived by four sons, Lyle and Mahlon, of Battle Creek, Mrs. Everett Myers, Centerville, and Mrs. Ed Traver, Hastings; one brother J. E. Tobias, of Battle Creek, and one sister Mrs. Lewis Abbot, of Battle Creek. The body has been taken to Leonard Funeral Home here, but no arrangements have yet been made.
