Cunningham, Merchant Residents of Rockwood and vicinity gathered Sunday to pay their last respects to Wm. Frank Cunningham who succumbed to a heart attack at 3:30 a.m. Christmas Day. He had suffered a mild previous attack late in the spring. Funeral services were held at the Rockwood Congregational Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Howard Hughes officiating. Burial was in Michigan Memorial Park. Pall bearers were Wm. Cooley, Archie Lezotte, Jesse VanRiper, Fred Ritter, Ralph Dodge, and Frank Ray of Rockwood, South Rockwood, and Flat Rocck. Interment services were in charge of Flat Rock #110 F & A.M. with Bradley Lobdell giving the funeral oration. Mr. Cunningham was born July 27, 1889, near Steiner, south of Carleton (Frenchtown) and was the son of Henry and Delia (Hanrahan) Cunningham. On December 12, 1912 he married Florence Heck, the wedding ceremony being performed in the Heck home in Detroit. Mr. & Mrs. Cunningham operated a grocery and meat market in Detroit for about 11 years before coming to Rockwood where they established a similar business. The Rockwood store was operated under the name of William F. Cunningham & Sons and has been expanded through the use of truck routes which include the outlying sections of Carleton. He was a charter member of the Rockwood Rotary Club and was the immediate past president of that organization. He was a member of Flat Rock Chapter No. 156, O.E.S., a member of Detroit Lodge No. 2, F. & A.M. for the past 27 years. He was also a member of the Rockwood Sportsman's Association and the the Rockwood Civic Im- provement Association. He was president of the Rockwood school board at one time, and served the Village of Rockwood as postmaster from 1932 until 1935. Mr. Cunningham is survived by his wife, six sons, Edward, George, William Patrick, Thomas, Jack, and Lawrence all of whom reside in Rockwood; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Wiseman, Margaret, Alvida, Gail and Delia of Rockwood; three sisters, Mrs Stephen Ankenbrandt of Detroit, Mrs. Ernest LeSage of Toledo, and Mrs. Clare Thomson of San Diego, California; one brother, Albert of Henderson, Nevada; and six grandchildren.
