Beecher St., a Monroe native who moved to Lenawee County in 1973, died Tuesday in the University of Michigan Hospital, where he had been about one week. He had been ill with cancer. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight in the Anderson Funeral Home, 3050 W. Beecher St., where services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, with Rev. Lawrence Cox officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Born Aug. 20, 1932 in Monroe, he was the son of Peter and Stella (Stevens) Curley. He married Joan Roe Aug. 20, 1960. He is survived by two sons; three daughters; a brother, Hank of Monroe; three sisters, inclulding Mrs. Norman (Beverly "Babe") Bert of Monroe and Mrs. Merlin (Maude) Etue of Dundee, and nine grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________________________ Obit. from the Monroe Evening News 10-16-1946 MONROE MAN DIES OF CRASH INJURIES The auto driven by Thomas H. Curley of 706 East Noble Avenue, Monroe, was struck by another car at the intersection of 10 mile and Southfield Roads at 7:30 a.m. yesterday. Thomas Curley died of injuries at 5:40 p.m. yesterday at the Mt. Carmel Hospital, Detroit. Others injured and hospitalized were (Mr. or Mrs. ?) Peter Curley, Mr. Curley's ? in-law who is in critical condition and her sons Grant, Henry and Thomas Curley. Mr. Curley was born Oct. 28, 1882 in Bay City, MI. the son of th late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Curley. He moved to Monroe in 1920 and had been employed at the consolidated Paper Co. for 26 years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Monroe V.F.W. post. Surviving him are four brothers; Peter, Hon nad Lynn of Monroe and Charles of Houston, Texas; five sisters , Mrs. Herbert Meyers of Ephrata, Mrs. Thomas Bonner of Glennie, Mrs. Louis Dixon, Mrs. Herbert Metz and Mrs. Alton Wahl of Monroe. The body has been taken to the Maurice Funeral Home where services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. W.P. Peck will officiate and burial will be in the Woodland, Cemetery. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Obit. Monroe Evening News 12-21-1970 Grant G. Curley, 46, of 706 E. Noble Ave. died of a heart attack Saturday in Mercy Hospital where he had been since Dec. 10. He had been ill since Nov. 26. Friends may call at the Rupp Funeral Home where Monroe Lodge 2254, Fraternal Order of Eagles, will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 tonight followed by a chapel service at 8 by Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Beemer of the Dundee United Methodist Church officiating. The Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, American Legion, Ida will conduct a military services at Woodland Cemetery. The son of Peter and Stella Curley, he was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Curtisville, MI. Mr. Curley , a 1942 graduate of Ida high School, enlisted in the Army March 29, 1943, and was discharged Feb. 25, 1946. He was a corporal in the 56th Squadron serving two years on Guam. He was employed in the experimental department of La-Z-boy Chair Co. for 19 years and was a member of Monrroe Post 1138, VFW, Lynn Cl Weeman Post 514, American Legion, and Monroe Lodge 2254, FOE. Surviving are two brothers, Henry Curley of Dundee and Thomas Curley of Clayton, and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Vandercook of Woodbridge, Va. and Mrs. Raymond (Maude) Etue and Mrs. Norman (Beverly) Bert of Monroe. A brother, LaVern, preceded him in death in 1952. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Obit. Monroe Evening News 11-1-1943 Mrs. Henery Curley Died at 3 p.m. yesterday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Dixon of 737 Hubble street, where Mrs. Curley made her home. She had been ill a year, and died of complications. She was 73 years old. Mrs. Curley was born in Kingston, Ontario, 4-1-1870. Her maiden name was Degrithea Van Idour. She married Henry Curley Sept. 9, 1887, with the Rev. Walter D. King of Bay City reading the service. The couple came to Monroe in 1922. Mr. Curley died January 22, 1941. Survivors are five sons, Thomas, Peter, John and Lyle of Monroe and Charles of Odessa, Texas; five daughters, Mrs. Herbert Meyer of Ephratta, Washington, Mrs. Thomas bonner of Glennie, MI. , Mrs. Hubert Metz, Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Elton Wahl of MOnreo; one brother Byron Van Idour of Princeton, Iowa: one sister, Mrs. Samuel Mexico of Bay City, and 31 grandchildren. The body will remain at the Maurice Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight until prayer services at 8:30 there, conducted by the Rev. Silas W. Peck. The body will be taken to Curtisville for services Wednesday at 1:30 in the Curisville Baptist church. Burial will be in Curtisville. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Obit. from the Monroe Evening News 5-27-1993 JOAN CURLEY Adrain-Mrs. Joan (Joann) Curley, 51, of Adrain, formerly of Monroe Co., died Wednesday in the Bixby Medical Center here. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight in the Anderson Funeral Home, 3050 Beecher St. , Adrain, where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Lawrence Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Born Sept. 21, 1941, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Samuel and Eva (Spaulding) Roe. She was married on Aug. 20, 1960, to Thomas Curley. He died in 1988. She had attended the Dundee Area Schools and lived in the Adrain area for the past 20 years, moving from the Dundee-Monroe area. She had been employed as a nurses aide. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Melody)Rincon of Adrian, and Susan Curley of Toledo, Ohio; two sons, Peter Curley of Hudson, Mi, and Ricky Joe Curley of Adrain; a brother Ronald Roe of Dundee; a sister, Ruth (Penny) Mason of Adrain, and 13 grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents. __________________________________________________________________________________ Harry Curley 12-5-1988 Harry Chipper Curley, 37, of Monroe died Sunday night in his home. Death was due to an apparent heart attack, but an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause, according to Dr. David Lieberman, Monroe Co. medical examiner. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Allore Funeral Home where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday and a Veterans of Foreign Wars service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home and at 10 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Hanchon will officiate and burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Born July 11, 1951 in Monroe, he was the son of Laverne and Anna Pribyl Curley. He was married Aug. 30, 1971 to Cynthia Guthrie in Monroe. He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator by the King Kurb Asphalt Co. in Brownstown Township. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from Feb. 4, 1970, to Feb. 27, 1973. He was a member of Monroe Post 1138, Vetrans of Foreign Wars, and Monroe Chapter 142, Vietnam Veterans of America. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Anna Leutz of Monroe; three daughters, Holly Guthrie of Monroe and Honey and Crystal Curley both of Monroe; two brothers, Laverne Curley, Jr. and John Leutz, both of Monroe; seven sisters, Mrs. Robert (STella) Layffette of Rockwood, Mrs. Bernard (Nancy) Jones of Carleton and Mrs. Mickie (Caroline) Short, Debbie Fisher, Mrs. Steven (Kathy) Fluharty, Connie Leutz and Bonnie Leutz, all of Monroe and a granddaughter. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Henry A. Curley 1-23-1941 Henry A. Curley, aged 85 years, died last night at 10:25 o'clock in Monroe Hospital from complications. He had been ill for two weeks. Mr. Curley made his home with his daughter at 737 Hubble street. He was born in St. Clair Co., September 27, 1855, and came to Monroe 18 years ago. He had worked as a bricklayer for 35 years. Surviving are the Widow, Degritata Vanitour Curley, who he married on September 7, 1887; five sons, Thomas Henry, Peter, John and Lysle of Monroe and Charles of Texas; five daughters, Mrs. Herbert Meyer of Ephrata, Washington, Mrs. Thomas Bonner of Glennie, Mrs. Charles Dixon, Mrs. Hubert Metz and Mrs. Elton Wahl of Monroe; two brothers, John of Bay city and Warren of Curtisville; two sisters, Mrs. John Murphy of Bay City and Mrs. Frank Phillips of St. Clair; and 30 grandchildren. A short funeral service will be hlep at the Maurice funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. George J. Stoddard officiating. The body will be shipped to Curtisville Friday evening at 8:45 o'clock and sevices will be held there Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. _________________________________________________________________________________ Frances E. Curley, Monroe Evening News, 7-18-1986 Mrs. Frances E. Curley, 76, a resident of the Frenchtown Convalescent Center, died Thursday in the center after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Allore-Sprow Funeral Home. Lt. David Warner of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born May 9, 1910, in Bays, Ohio, she was the daughter of Henry and Ida Smock Kiger. She married Lyle Curley Dec. 23, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio. He died Sept. 29, 1982. She lived in Monroe until 1969 when she moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she lived until moving back to Monroe in 1985. She was a member of the Frenchtown Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Lyle H. Curley Jr. of LaSalle; a daughter, Mrs. William (Isabelle) Bressler of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandchild. Curley, Monroe Evening News 1-21-1992 Harriet M. Curley, 92, of Monroe, died at 3:20 p.m. Monday in Beach Nursing Home, where she had been since Dec. 3. Friends may call from 5 to 9 tonight in the Earle Little Funeral Home, where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. E.D. Landis of the First Wesleyan Church will officiate and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. born Sept. 25, 1899, in Clairborne County, Tenn., she was the daughter of H. Floyd and Donna Runion Welch. She came to Monroe in 1918 and was married to Richard Mathes in 1916. He preceded her in death in 1934. Her second marriage was to John W. Curley May 26, 1950, in the parsonage of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Monroe. He preceded her in death May 25, 1978. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church and its missionary society, and the Monroe Senior Citizens. Surviving are two sons, Alvin Mathes of Monroe and Richard Mathes of Eugene, Ore.; a brother William Welch of Negosa, MO.; a sister, Mrs. Rachel Ferraez of Lake Wales, Fla.; several grandchildren, and several great-grand children. In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, William in 1979, two grandchildren, a great grandson, and several brothers and sisters. Noble Ave. Friends may call after 7 tonight in the Maurice Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Richards of the Dundee Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. The daughter of Archie and Jeminia Stevens, she was born July 8, 1898, at Curtisville. Her marriage to Peter A. Curley was Nov. 18, 1917, at Harrisville, and he died Sept. 10, 1955. She came to Monroe 37 years ago from Curtisville. She was a member of the Auxiliary of Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is survived by 3 sons, Brant (should be Grant) , and Thomas of Monroe and Henry of Dundee; 3 daughters, Mrs. Sybil Vandercook, Mrs. Maude Etue and Mrs. Beverly Bert, all of Monroe; 2 brothers Allan of Chicago and Ira of Utica; a sister, Mrs. William O'Mera of Phoenix, Ariz., and 17 grandchildren. Curley, 64, World War I veteran, died at 9:50 a.m. Satruday in his home at 706 E. Noble Ave. Ill for about a year, he had been in serious condition since April 30. Services will be at 2:30 Tuesday in Maurice Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronald A. Brunger of Dundee Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Woodland Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Monroe veterans. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Obituary from the Monroe Evening News: 5-29-1978 John W. Curley, 76, of W. Third St., a retired crane operator for Consolidated Packaging Corp., died Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo. He had been in poor health for years, and seriously ill for several weeks. Friends may call after 7 tonight and until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Earle Little Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the First Wesleyan Church, of which Mr. Curley was a member to lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, when funeral services will be held. The Rev. E. L. Downey will officiate and burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle. Born Nov. 21, 1901, Curtisville, he was the son of Henry and Degrethia (Vanidour). He came to Monroe in 1920 from Curtisville and married Harriet M. Welch May 26, 1950. He retired in November of 1966, and was a member of Local 1004, United Paperworkers International Union. Surviving are his wife; son, Jack L. of Monroe; stepsons, Alvin Mathes of Monroe, William Hunt of Toledo and Richaard Mathes of Los Angeles; 3 daughters, Mrs. Edward (Julia M.) Copi, Mrs. Ethel Sebolt and Joyce McNew Foss, all of Monroe; a brother, Lyle of Mesa, Arizona; a sister Louis Dickson of Monroe, 2 grand children and 8 great grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Curley in death were two brothers and three sisters and a grandson, Gary Mathes. dz
