She was born in Cleveland to James A. and Mary E. Baker Laughrin, and entered the Order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1922 to begin a career in high school and college education. Sr. Fidelia taught 10 years in high schools, including the Michigan schools of St. Mary Academy of Monroe, St. Charles of Newport and St. John of Benton Harbor. She then spent the next 37 years at Marygrove, teaching and administering Spanish courses. In 1970, Sr. Fidelia left Marygrove for the Catholic Charities at Cleveland, where she was a program editor, writer and research developer until 1983. She then moved to Parma, Ohio, where she took care of a sister for eight years. Earlier this year, she moved into the IHM Mother House, Monroe. Sr. Fidelia had earned a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish at St. Mary College of Monroe, a master's in Spanish from the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate in the language from the Catholic University of America. She has three surviving sisters. A wake will be 1-9 p.m. today in the IHM Mother House, Monroe. A vigil service will be at 7 tonight in the Mother House Chapel. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Monroe. Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe, is in charge of arrangements.
