He was married May 3rd, 1869 to Rebecca Wirth of the same place. To this union were born seven sons, five of whom have passed on before. On Sept 11th, 1903, his wife preceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, one son, one daughter, two brothers, eight grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr Smith was a man of strong christian character having united with the church in his youth. He served in every capacity in the church, except superintendent of the Sunday School, and was the class leader at the time of his death. He was a member of the Oakville M. E.Church for more than fifty years. During the last years of his life, circumstances froced him to remain very much alone and during those many hours of lonesomeness he composed many beautiful verses. During his illness of seven weeks, he was very patient, continually reminding the family that he was all right. The funeral was held at Oakville on October 14th. He was buried at London beside his wife who had passed seventeen years and one month before him. dz
