Ms. FAIRCHILD had been a resident of Sheridan since 1998, formerly of Greenville. She was a teacher at Central Montcalm Sheridan Elementary School in the Special Educatiion Resource room. She was a member of the MEA and the CMEA and also the Oakwood Christian Reformed Church, Belding. She is survived by her parents, Alland and Dorothy DIRKSE of Oostburg, Wis.; one sister and brother-in-law, Trudi and Michael LAGANOWSKI of Oostburg, Wis.; one brother and sister-in-law, Allan Jr. and Terry DIRKSE of Oostburg, Wis.; two nieces and three nephews. Michael was born June 16, 1958, in Grand Rapids, the son of Patrick and Kay SMITH FARRELL. He was a Kalamazoo area resident for the past 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and antique tractor pulling. Michael and his family owned and operated Kalamazoo Metal Recyclers Inc., where he worked as yard foreman. He married Bridgit M. QUILLAN on April 6, 1990. He is survived by his wife, Bridgit M. She was born May 26, 1908, in Stanton to Norman and Nora MILLER RHOADES. Marian was a retired school teacher, having taught at Belding High School from 1955 to 1958, later at Saranac, Novi and Hesperia high schools. She was a life member of the National Ladies Auxiliary VFW, a 50-year member of the Michigan National Retired Teachers Association and held memberships in the Michigan Education Association, Ferris State College Alumni and Michigan State University Alumni. He was born June 6, 1933, in Edmore, to Leo N. and Thelma LISCOMBE FOSTER. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and was employed by General Electric and Hitachi Magnetics for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a volunteer Home Township fireman for 23 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1935 to 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce. Mr. FOSTER is survived by his wife, Gail R. FRECHEN, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999. She was born in Dallas Township, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine GELLER GEORGE. She was formerly of Fowler and lived in the Long Lake area for 51 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, was the owner/operator of a bar in St. Johns and Fowler and of Brookside Grocery in Long Lake in Ionia County. On July 28, 1933, she married Harold "Bud" FRECHEN. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1971. She is survived by one sister and brother-in-lw, Joan and Stanley SMITH of rural St. Johns; one brother, Joseph GEORGE of rural Fowler, many nieces and nephews. He worked on the family dairy farm for four years, then at Federal-Mogul in Greenville for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed collecting and working on antique cars. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1933. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was the owner and operator of the former Rustic Gardens Floral Shop and Greenhouse in Belding. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Belding, American Legion Ray I. Booth Post 101 of Greenville, a life member of the Belding Masonic Lodge, and former member of the Shriners. He also was a past president of the Belding Lions Club. He was married Oct. 28, 1939, in Belding, to Alice PHILLIPS, and she survives with their children, Sandra A. GAIS, John P. and Ladeidra BROWN GAIS, all of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Wendy GAIS, Jaime THOMAS and Bradley KLOOSTRA; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan THOMAS. She was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Howard City to Fred and Edith SCOTT GALLEGAR. She is survived by two sisters, Leone NIELSEN, Lauralee GALLEGAR, both of Stanton; a very dear friend, Betty June KERCE of Carol Stream, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, one niece and nephew. Miss GALLEGAR graduated from Stanton High School in 1932 and from County Normal. The son of Frederick CARR and Andria MOORE-EDMUNDS, he was born June 12, 1974, in Grand Rapids. A graduate of Greenville High School, Michael liked computers and electronics, and loved to draw. At age 12, Michael delivered The Daily News to residents on Montcalm Street. The family thanks those who touched his life. He will be greatly missed. She was the daughter of Worney and Alzora E. POST TIFFANY, and was born on the family farm in rural Grant. She was raised by her grandparents, Samuel and Martha POST. She was taught early on that life was not easy, but worthy of the struggle to do one's very best in any situation. She married Clemens GRANT on April 22, 1936, and they enjoyed many years of farm life together. Lorna was instrumental in donating her mother's home, a historical site on Cass Avenue to the "Wellhouse", a temporary home for the troubled and homeless. Lorna appreciated God's creation, always marveling at the beauty of the earth. She was a true friend and tireless worker, never forgetting the value of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clemens, on Jan. 17, 1984, and her foster son, Roy MC VICKERS. She will be missed. He attended Shanty Plains school and from age 16 to 31 worked at Hall Orchards. Mr. GLADDING worked at Gibson's for 6 years and was a cattle trucker for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1961. During this time, Lemmie also farmed his own farm, and continued to farm after his retirement. He was married Jan 17, 1931, to Thelma Louise CORY, and she survives, treasuring the memories of 68 years of marriage. Mr. GLADDING was former president of the Clear Lake Cemetery Association and also former president of the Ronald Center School, and he loved to fish and hunt. Lemmie was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by seven brothers and three sisters. He was born March 9, 1922, in Belding, to Leon R. and Jennie H. NEVE GLEASON, the youngest of three children, Adell, Viola and Glen. He attended Belding Schools and graduated with the class of 1940. In June of 1940, he started work at Gibson Refrigerator Co. as an apprentice draftsman. He worked there as manager of design and drafting until his disability retirement in February 1982. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1942 and served until his discharge as a sergeant in February 1946. He married Rosalie Jane SMITH on June 27, 1942, in Lakeview. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1978. He is survived by his children, Gary and Suzanne GLEASON, Tammy TOMPKINS, all of Belding, Michael and Carol GLEASON of Gowen; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; one sister and brother-in-law, Adell and Ray JENSEN of Belding; his aunt, Susan NEVE of Grand Rapids; one brother-in-law, Daniel SMITH of East Lansing; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She had been ill since this past May. Mrs. GOFREDO was born June 24, 1916, in Alt-Oblusch bei Gdynia (Gotenhafen), Poland, to Heinrich Carl Ferdinand and Emma Lina Selma ASCHER BEHRENDT. She completed her schooling in Germany and trained to be a seamstress. She was married to Rudolf GOFREDO on Dec. 28, 1945, in Germany. The couple immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1952. They traveled by train with their two daughters to Jackson where they were met by their American sponsors. They were taken to Sidney where Mr. GOFREDO worked on a farm. In 1953 they moved to Belding, where they made their home until 1985. They then moved to Marshall, where she has lived since. Mr. GOFREDO preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1990. Mrs. GOFREDO worked as assistant librarian in Gotenhafen, Poland (now Gdynia, Poland). From 1958 to 1968 she worked as a seamstress at Jolly Kids Togs in Belding. Then she worked as a power sewing machine operator at Chrysler Corp. in Lyons, from where she retired in 1979. In 1997 she received the "Heart of Gold Award" from Coldwell Banker Real Estate firm. Mrs. GOFREDO was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Marshall. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, playing bingo, playing the lottery and being with her family. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helga and Kent ANDERSON of Marshall, Jutta and Robert STOCKS of Grand Rapids; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Judy GOFREDO of Durham, N.C.; six grandchildren, Steve and Amy ANDERSON, Brian ANDERSON, Robby and Jamie STOCKS, Lisa STOCKS, Karen BUSSLER and Larry BUSSLER; one great-grandson, Ethan STOCKS; one sister, Maria EBERLE of Hamelin, Germany. He was born in Buffalo Valley, Tenn., on July 27, 1915, the son of John H. and Bertha RAYMER GOOLSBY. Herm was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II, a member of the Trufant Lodge F.&A.M., an avid golfer, and a former member of the VFW Lakeview Post. He retired in 1977 from Federal-Mogul Corp. in Greenville after 42 years of service. He married Violet POULSEN on June 8, 1946, in Big Rapids, and she preceded him in death in 1967. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was born in Germany on Sept. 9, 1915, the son of Max and Marie LUNGHAMMER GUENTHER. He came to the USA at age 5 with his parents and graduated from Willoughby High School, Willoughby, Ohio, and then attended Parks Air College. He married Margaret CATTELL on Oct. 28, 1939, in Willoughby. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1992. Eric came to Greenville in 1942 when he was hired by the Gibson Refrigerator Co. for the World War II glider manufacturing project. He continued with his working career as fabrication supervisor until his retirement. In the 1950s he and hi wife operated the "Hobby Den" craft store. An active community member of Greenville, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Homemakers of the the church, served on the church board and on the trustees of the church. He also was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as scoutmaster of Troop 233 of Greenville, attending the National Scout Jamborees, and received from BSA the Silver Beaver Award and the Order of the Arrow. He also was an officer of the Gibson Employee Credit Union and was a former member of the Gibson Management Club. In recent years, he helped spearhead the reconstruction of the Fighting Falcon glider and was active in its restoration, personally travelling around the country to airfields and millitary bases to obtain parts and information for the project. He also was helping to establish a museum for the glider here in Greenville. Eric is survived by one daughter, Rita M. Mr. HALL served his country as a radio man, flying on recon. missions from Adack Naval Base, Alaska, during the Vietnam Conflict. Always an avid sports fan, he coached junior and senior baseball for the Port Huron Athletic Club. Mr. HALL was an employee of the city of Detroit for many years. He would spend most of his free time visiting his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William LUSCHER of Edmore and enjoying the beauty and serenity of the area. In 1997, he moved to Edmore and was employed by Frigidaire of Greenville. He will be sadly missed in this area by all of his many new friends and acquaintances, especially his dear friend Loralee MAGERS. HANSEN, 87, passed on to paradise on Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Metropolitan Hospital, Grand Rapids. He resided at 3503 Epley Road, Stanton, the farm where his pa and ma, Hans and Anna CHRISTENSEN HANSEN, came in 1908, then full of stumps from lumbering days. Hans came to America from Denmark at age 3, with his parents, Lars Peter and Caroline, and family in 1882 to the young new land to prosper, bringing their faith and Bible. They prospered, Hans leaving this earth at age 83. Alvin, an only child, saved from polio, helped farm the extra acres with horses and finally tractors. He married Marilyn J. MITCHELL on March 24, 1940, in Stanton. He and Marilyn have only one son, John, farming with his pa, along with his family and wife, Clara, two sons, Al and Vince. Alvin left behind three great-grandsons, age 6, 3, and on year; and numerous relatives and neighbors. Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the M-46 Tabernacle, Riverdale. After his death in 1968, she continued as president and owner until her retirement in 1976 when their son, Tom HARADINE, continued the business as the owner. She attended Kellogsville School and was married in 1938 to Ray HARRINGTON. The couple lived in Orleans for many years, and Wilma moved to Ionia after Ray's death in 1991. Wilma liked crossword puzzles, seewing, crocheting, needlework, was a seamstress and an avid reader. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family. She had worked in the field of aging for 27 years, the last 18 years as the director of the Montcalm County Commission on Aging. She received many awards for her service to the senior citizens including the "Golden Eagle Award" presented by VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan. Some of her associatiions included membership on the Michigan Directors of Services to the Aging, Gerontology Society, Creative Aging Committee, former chairperson of Local FEMA committee, a member of the EightCAP weatherization advisory board and former member and chairperson of the Foster Grandparent program. She was born Aug. 8, 1907, in Plymouth, the daughter of Otto and Mary Elizabeth GAYDE BEYER. After her daughter, Mary Lou, was born and a brief marriage to Reginald MOBRAY ended, Liz went to work at the Novi Training School. There she met Carl "Wick" HARTWICK. She and Wick were married Oct. 18, 1940. The HARTWICKS loved to entertain, often throwing holiday and theme parties. He preceded her in dath in June 1973. Liz was a lifelong resident of Plymouth, and retired from the accounting firm of Sutherland and Yoe, Plymouth, in December 1982 at age 75. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Plymouth, and enjoyed bingo and cards. At 91, Liz had outlived all of her brothers and sisters and many friends. She lived her entire life in Plymouth and loved the town and its people. She saw her five grandchildren grow from childhood to adults and spent many years enjoying her five great-grandchildren. Her great-granddaughter, Nadia Elizabeth, just two months old when Liz died, made the trip from Guatemala to meet her great-grandmother just days before she passed away. Her last few months were spent in an extended care facility in Greenville. Her family encouraged the move so they would be near enough to visit daily while she was ill. Liz was happy in life and that alone is worth celebrating. She gave generously of herself and played a lifelong role in the proud legacy that is Plymouth. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou HORNBROOK of Greenville; five grandchildren, Barbara CLARK, Amy HORNBROOK, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Scott HORNBROOK of Seattle, Wash., Suzanne CHANG-JONFE of Guatemala, Andrew HORNBROOK of Greenville; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Wesley, Sammy Lee, Nadia Elizabeth and China. "Mike" JORGENSEN, 79, Trufant, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 1999, at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Trufant, the son of Andrew and Madae NYRAND JORGENSEN and was a lifelong resident of Trufant. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Myron served his country in World War II with the Third Army, 999th Signal Corps in Europe. He was a charter member and life member of Hough-Pontius Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3701, Lakeview, and a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Trufant. He married Barbara FOX on June 22, 1946, at Sparta. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ezra B. JORGENSEN. He will be proudly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Barbara JORGENSEN; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Duane and Mary Anne JORGENSEN of Elk Rapids, Carmen JORGENSEN of Trufant, Randy and Lois JORGENSEN of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several cousins, many nieces and nephews. She was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Harlington, Texas. In June 1958, she married Robert William "Bob" JUNKELMAN, who in addition to being her husband, was her "friend and buddy". She was a wonderful, loving, caring person who loved and cherished her children and her grandchildren. In 1972, Mrs. JUNKELMAN began a career with Langley Federal Credit Union, in the bookkeeping department. In 1998, she retired as assistant vice president of operations with 25 years of service. Mrs. JUNKELMAN was preceded in death by her parents, Marcie L. and Daniel A. WILLIAMS; one brother, Paul E. WILLIAMS, and his wife, Emma, of Weslaco, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Bob; a son, Robert W. II and his wife Kathryn; and four grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily, Katie, Sarah, all of Belding; a son, Charles Jeffrey of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Joni Lynn HUNT and her husband, Tim; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, Austin, Ashton, all of Stuart, Va.; a stepdaughter, Deborah RYAN and her husband, Mike, and their family, all of Honor; four brothers, David L.P.
