"Bill" KENNEDY, 51, of Lakeland, Fla., died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, Feb. 21, 1948, the son of William H. and Dorothy KENNEDY. Bill married Christine HANNA on June 12, 1986, in Georgia. They have two children, Charles, 12, and Dorothy, 10. The KENNEDY family lived at Lincoln Lake in Gowen for three years, 1993-1996, then returned to Lakeland where Bill was employed as a mechanic for Robin Road Repair. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1949. He is survived by his wife, Christine (Hanna) KENNEDY of Lakeland, Fla.; Charles and Dorothy at home; Anthony, Adam and Amanda KENNEDY of Minnesota; William R. He was employed for 22 years at Frigidaire, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, in the Pacific Theater, and was a member of the VFW Kelsey Wiley Post 2292. He was owner/operator of Lake Marine Distributing in Holland and Douglas for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Saugatuck Masonic Blue Lodge and the Saladin Shrine Temple where he was a past potentate and a York-Rite. He played Santa for many years at the Belding Covered Village Mall. He was married May 19, 1982, in Grand Rapids, to Bonnie GAGE. He was born Oct 5, 1933, in Grand Rapids, the son of Harold Edward and Ruby Elizabeth MARSH KLUNDER. During his working years he was employed at General Motors as a tool and die maker for 32 years. During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S.Army, and he was a member of the Howard City VFW Post 3306. Jr. loved his family and was always there to lend a helping hand. In 1961 he married Bonnie PELTON, who survives. He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Belding, the son of Charles and Ceyneth WILSON KNAPP. He graduated with the Class of 1933 from Belding High School. He was a member of Green Corners Baptist Church for more than 40 years. On Nov. 15, 1939, he married Elaine ROGERS in Lansing. She survives, along with their children and their spouses, Marye Anne and Charles KRAMER of Cedar Springs, Alicia and Bill FEEHAN, Norman L. Jr. and Susan KNAPP, all of Belding; his grandchildren, Steve, Leigh Anne, Timothy, Christine, Heather, Elizabeth, Bill, Angie, Nikki, Rachelle, Marie, Peggy and Rick; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn KNAPP of Lansing, N.C. She was retired from Hitachi and General Electric after more than 30 years of service and was a member of the United Auto Workers. She was also a member of the Vestaburg Church of Christ and a member of the Gratiot-Montcalm Area Hospice. Wesley KRAFT, 96, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at his home. He was born June 7, 1903, in Coral, the son of Jacob and Mary EHLERT KRAFT. He was a lifetime member of the Danish Brotherhood Society, and years ago he worked at Sage's Meat Processing. He was a farmer and one of the original members of the 4-H Fair. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susy and Dick SCHENDEN of Boyne City; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Hubert and Ruth of Greenville, Richard and Joan of Trufant, Bob and Martha of Greenville; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dagmer L. KRAFT on April 15, 1994; his brothers, Ben and Dave; his sisters, Grace, Carrie, Blanche and Florence. KREFT, 46, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. She was born Oct. 29, 1952, in Sheridan, and graduated from Carson City High School in 1970. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant. Kathryn married Richard KREFT on Dec. 30, 1972. They made their home in both Six Lakes and more recently Chippewa Lake. She was an elementary classroom teacher at Montabella Community Schools since 1975. Kathryn was an active member of the Barryton Free Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Bible Quiz coach. Because of her faith in God, the church played a major role in every aspect of Kathryn's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; one daughter, Marcie KREFT, a student at Cornerstone College, Grand Rapids; parents, Howard "Mike" and Doris RYAN of Carson City; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda RYAN of Carson City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Greg MC CRACKEN of Carson City, Jeanne and Larry REYNOLDS, Lori and Steve GIERHAN, all of Lexington, Neb.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edgar and Shirley KREFT of Rogers City; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was born Aug. 25, 1979, in Carson City, to Ronald and Kathi SETCHFIELD KROUSE. He was a member of the American Tae Kwon Do Association. He was a third-degree black belt and in 1987 was second at the World Championships. He also taught Tae Kwon Do and especially enjoyed working with the children. He enjoyed snowmobiling and bow hunting for deer. He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Kathi KROUSE of Matherton; one sister, Stacy KROUSE of Grand Rapids; grandparents, Larry and Shirley KROUSE of Hubbardston, Beryl and Ida Belle SETCHFIELD of Grand Rapids; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juna and Donald HERBISON of Stanton, Jessie and Chester MAIN of Greenville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Merle and Cleo KRUM, Earl and Ruth KRUM, both of Stanton; one brother-in-law, Don and Carol CESAR of Stanton; one sister-in-law, Iris and Bob MAYER of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tressa "Joyce" KRUM on March 11, 1982; one sister, Frieda CESAR in 1973; two brothers, Keith KRUM in 1982, Max KRUM in 1994. MANGUS on Sept. 7, 1938, in Indiana. Mr. KRUM was a longtime resident of the Stanton area and a life member of Central Michigan Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Cleo N. Don LAHMAN, of Vestaburg, was born May 28, 1917, in Henderson, the son of Adolph F. and Grace J. TELFER LAHMAN. On Nov. 27, 1940, he married Anna L. DICKINSON, in Owosso. He graduated from Phillips University, where he received his master of divinity degree. He taught Bible and church history courses at Great Lakes Bible College at Rock Lake from 1950 to 1955. He taught high school English at Vestaburg and was the school librarian from 1953 to 1962. From 1962 until 1969 he was reference and circulation librarian and A.V. director for Alma College. He retired from Central Michigan University, where he was science and technology librarian and taught library science courses from 1969 to 1983. Don also filled church pulpits for 27 years, preaching to his fellow Christians. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his yard at home on Rock Lake. He was born March 20, 1910, in Greenville, the son of Jens Christian and Marie LYNDRUP. He married Carolyn E. LARSEN of Clifton, Ill., on June 17, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clifton. Mr. LYNDRUP, who taught school for 39 years, received his master's degree from Michigan State University. He started teaching in a one-room school in Michigan, and went on to teach in Northport, Ionia, Dana College, Carthage College, Oak Park High School and Central Community Unit 4 at Clifton for 19 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Mark LYNDRUP of Jamestown, N.C., Allen LYNDRUP of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; one daughter, Lynette RUSSELL of Seattle, Wash.; his grandchildren, Christina LYNDRUP, Erica LYNDRUP, M.D., both of New York, N.Y., Jorgen JENSEN, M.D., Erik JENSEN, both of San Francisco, Calif., Anders LYNDRUP of Greensboro, N.C., Jens LYNDRUP, Carolyn LYNDRUP, both of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Joanna LYNDRUP of Jamestown, N.C. She also was a graduate of Michigan State College (now University) with a bachelor of science in home management. Shw was a member of Mackinac County Board of Commissioners for several years and very active in Mackinac Straits Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity at Michigan State College and an active gardener. She was awarded the Mother's Eagle Scout Award when her son, Michael, became an Eagle Scout. She enjoyed Thursday evening outings at the now famous Pout-Haus in St. Ignace. She also helped with her husband's law practice in later years. She married Edward G. MC NAMARA Jr. on July 5, 1941, in Flint. They lived at Fort Knox while he served in the U.S. Army before going overseas. He was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Lowell, the son of Lewis Sr. and Rose WOOD MC NAUGHTON. During his working years he became superintendent of mails in the Lansing Post Office and later became postmaster of Grand Rapids. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he oversaw 639 Michigan post offices and eight sectional centers. Upon retirement he was the Michigan district manager for the United States Postal Service. Lewis also was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Wacousta-DeWitt Lodge 359 F&AM. He was active in local governmental issues and served as president of the Valley Farms School Board in Clinton County. In later years, he resided in Orleans and Zephyrhills, Fla. He was married June 19, 1937, in Belding, to Madelene B. CURRIE. Prior to that, Charles had worked for the Huntley-VanBuren Furniture Co. in Sturgis. On July 17, 1937, in Sturgis, he married the former Lucile HOOVER. He had a true love of flying, being a private pilot, owning his own aircraft, built model airplanes, attended numerous air shows, and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. MARTELL, 84, of Trufant, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Kelsey Memorial Hospital, Lakeview. He was born in Grand Rapids on Nov. 15, 1915, the son of Charles H. and Adelaide A. HANCOCK MARTELL. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids Central High School and received his music education in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., and Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. He taught music for many years in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Bay City and Grand Rapids. Floyd moved to Trufant in 1950, where he taught music in many schools in the Montcalm County area. He was a life member of the Trufant Lodge F. & A.M and was active in the music field entertaining people with talent shows, parties and receptions, playing with the Rhythm Stylists Trio. For many years he helped with the talent shows in the Greenville Danish Festival and also in the Firemans Ball in Trufant. On Aug. 12, 1947, in South Bend, Ind., he married Connie T. VAN SPRANGE of Grand Rapids and for the past 62 years they have played and taught much music together for many students. Together they owned and taught music at the Martell Music Store in Greenville with Floyd retiring in 1979. Hoot worked as a fabric and color specialist, beginning in the mills at Yale, then with Kaiser Frazier in Ypsilanti, and retiring from the Ford Motor Co. in the 1970s. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of the Shriners in Dearborn, and the High-Ten Club of Leesburg, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen BURNS. In 1936 he married Eva Lenore KING. She preceded him in death in 1961. He is survived by four sisters, Margaret Ruth CORRELL, Beatrice May BROGGE, Lois Louise DILL, Joyce Alma WILLIAMSON; his children, Dr. Annette MARTIN of Brighton, Richard James and Marilyn MARTIN of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandchilddren, Christine Elizabeth POE and Danielle Rene MARTIN; his great-grandchildren, Sean MARTIN and Shana Elizabeth POE. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenville, Greenville Education Association, Michigan Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Cullen Douglas MONCREIFF on April 17, 1926, at Detroit. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1994. She also was prceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Cullen "Bud" CLARKE on Nov. 18, 1988. After her husband's retirement in the early 1950s, she and C.D. moved to Long Lake in Harrison, where they owned and operated Northland Cottages for many years. In 1990, Jewell was awarded life membership in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 408, Harrison, where she served twice as worthy matron and several terms as chaplain. She also was a member of the statewide Grand Family, a life member of Michigan Grand Chapter and First Congregational United Church of Christ, Harrison. Still active at age 94, she volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Rapids, attended St. Charles Catholic Church with her family, and delighted in taking her great-grandbabies for strolls. She will be remembered by many for her love of family, flowers, birds and her hobbies of sewing and knitting. Retiring from the Detroit area to Long Lake in Harrison in the 1950s, she joined the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 408 and served twice as worthy matron and several times as chaplain, in addition to being a member of the statewide Grand Family and a member of the Grand Chapter. In 1990 she was awarded lifetime membership. A skilled seamstress and an avid knitter, everyone in the family, and many firends as well, received clothing, sweaters, mittens, slippers and dishcloths that she hand-crafted with love. At age 87, she cut and sewed the dresses for the entire bridal party for her granddaughter's wedding. In Harrison, she and her late husband owned and operated Northland Cottages for many years and also were active members of the Congregational Church. Still active at age 94, she volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Rapids, attended St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with her family and loved to take her great-great-grandbabies for strolls. Her father founded Greenville's first daily paper in 1879 (then know as the Daily News) and served as its editor until 1924. It became the Daily Call in 1881. She subseqently moved to Detroit where she married James in 1934 and raised her family. She lived the better part of 60 years in Detroit, Ferndale, Southfield and Plymouth before relocating to Bliss in 1988. She served many years as an accountant for the Murray Equipment Co. in Highland Park. She retired from Fisher Theatre in Detroit after serving for 15 years as a bookkeeper with responsibilities for the Pine Knob payroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. MURRAY Sr. She is survived by two sons, James J. MURRAY Jr. of Brighton, William W. MURRAY of Troy; two daughters, Ellen E. CHAMBERLAIN of Beaufort, S.C., Margaret M. He served his country in the 8th Army Air Force. He was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, treasurer and member of the church formerly known as Coral Methodist Church. He served as zoning board president of Maple Valley Township, served on the Montcalm County Commission on Aging and was treasurer of the Trufant Jubilee. Mr. NEWELL was an avid golfer and a member of the Birchwood Motor League. He shot his first hole-in-one at the age of 80. Robby graduated from Rockford High School in 1997 and went to work full time for his father and uncle at Rockford Tire. Robby, following a chip off the old block, worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed hot rods and four-wheel recreation vehicles. Presently he was restoring his 1980 Camero and it was ready to paint. Eventually Robby wanted to go to college and was saving his money to pay for it. He was born April 1, 1930, in Fenton, to William and Rosett OLSEN. Howard served in the U.S. Marines from 1948 to 1952. He began his apprenticeship in tool and die at Gibson's in Greenville. He later retired as superintendent of tool and die at General Motors Corp. in 1991, after 33 years of service. He had lived in the Belding area for 33 years. He married Eleanore TROTTIER of Massachusetts in 1952. She survives along with their children, Richard and Audrey OLSEN of Eagle, George and Anna OLSEN of Belding; seven grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jack RANDALL of Sheridan; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ronald OLSEN of Texas, William and Kathleen OLSEN of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his father in 1935 and his mother in 1946.
