Cheney, who for the past eighteen months had resided with his daughter, Mrs. H.W. Rice, in this city, died last Saturday afternoon. The decease was born January 2, 1811 in Vermont, and moved with his parents to Genessee county, N.Y. when a small boy. March 4, 1829, he was married to Fanny Metcalf. Nine children were born them, three of whom are living, Mrs. H.W. Rice and Ann L. Cheney of this city and U.H. Cheney of Iowa. In the year 1844 they moved to Ionia county, this state and settled in the township of Easton, afterwards they moved to Orleans, where they lived nearly fifty years. In 1864 his wife died., after sharing each other's joys and sorrows for nearly 65 years. Funeral services were held Monday at the Woodard Lake church in Ionia county, where the remains were laid to rest by those of his wife. Additional Comments: From the Daily Sentinel, Mon. Sept. 15, 1905: Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Remington and Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Hubbell went to Woodward lake today to attend the funeral of Mr. Cheney of Stanton, father of the late Henry Cheney.
