Clock was born in New Canaan, Conn., Sept. 26, 1831, and died August 7, 1915, aged 83 years, 10 mos. and 11 days. While a mere youth, with his parents he moved to Salem, Washtenaw Co., Michigan and about 1848 came with his parents, James and Betsey Clock, Joseph L. and Susan, his brother and sister to Bushnell, Montcalm county. Their belongings in this world's goods loaded on a lumber wagon were drawn by oxen into the wilderness. They blazed the trail, cutting the heavy lumber for their first cabin. With courage and industry did they meet all the hardships and privations incident to pioneer life, the memories of which were always a source of great satisfaction and joy to the deceased. The sons had previously,by working at sixpence and a shilling a day, with mother the "banker or treasurer," earned and saved $80.00 with which they purchased the grant for the land, which has ever since been the dearest place on earth to them - "home." The deceased was married in 1855 to Almeda Bump who died in 1878. To this union two children were given, one dying in infancy, the survivor being Mrs. Ella D. Herrick. In 1882 he was again married to Dora Miller and to this union came one child, Mrs. Jessie Whitmore. The deceased was a member of the United Brethren church, while the organization was laboring in the community. He was a man without a secret. His life is an open book and the world may judge of his character, and the fruits of his labors. The funeral services were conducted from his late residence Monday by Rev. Bancroft, assisted by Elder N.L. Otis and interment was made at Palo. Additional Comments: From the Gazette, August 13, 1915: We desire to extend our thanks to our kind neighbors and friends during our recent bereavement, also for the music and flowers.
