Herrick, wife of Representative Walter G. Herrick, who passed away on Monday evening, Feb. 25, at the farm home southwest of Carson City, at the age of 64 years, following a long illness. She was the daughter of William and Emeline Croel, and was born near Lyons, Ionia county, July 21, 1882. After she completed the course of study in the Lyons high school she qualifed herself for teaching by attending the State Normal College at Mt. Pleasant after which she taught school for two years. She was united in marriage to Walter G. Herrick at the home of her parents on Set. 2, 1908. They resided in Lyons for two years during which time Mr. Herrick was associated with the Herrick Casket Company. Disposing of his interested they located on a farm near Butternut residing there for a year. Then after spending three years on a farm owned by his brother in Bushnell township, the present farm southwest of Carson City was purchased.This has been their home since, excepting three years spent in Stanton while Mr. Herrick was the Montcalm count treasurer and Mrs. Herrick acted as his assistant. Mrs. Herrick was a most estimable lady and possessed many fine qualities of mind and heart. She was an active member of the Methodist church and took a deep interest in all that pertained for the upbuilding and betterment of the community in which she lived. Surviving besides the husband are one son, Dr. Clifford C. Herrick, recently discharged from the U.S. Navy after having served as an Ensign, three daughters, Mrs. Emeline Nelson of Stanton, Mrs. Mildred Blackmer of Wilmington, Ohio, and Gayla, teacher in the Detroit schools, and five grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. James Brown, of Ionia and three brothers, Charles, William Sr., and Lawrence Croel, all of Lyons. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Carson City this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. Lewis Herrick, a nephew will officiate, assisted by Rev. W. E. Ragan of Pompeii, and singing will be by Rev. and Mrs. M.E. Bowen. Six relatives will act as pall bearers. Interment will be in the Palo cemetery.
