LUTZ MET WITH FATAL AUTO ACCIDENT C.D. Lutz (Chris) aged 48 died Sunday afternoon at 3:30 after a sideswipe collision with another car driven by Wm. McCrackin. After striking the McCrackin car the Lutz car rolled over several times and Mr. Lutz was found about 15 ft from the car lying on his face. He was carried into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Goodsell but died before the arrival of a physician. His head and chest were badly crushed. Lutz, who was returning from Mrs. Paul Bennett's funeral, was reported by eye witnesses as apparently not seeing the approaching car as they approached each other over a grade. The accident occurred 2 1/2 miles west of the Vickeryville corners and about 1/2 mile south in front of what is remembered as the Cummings farm and almost at the sight of the old Lutz home. Mrs. Lutz who has been sick in bed for 3 weeks was taken to Carson City hospital last week end and Mr. Lutz was to have given blood for a transfusion for his wife Monday morning previous to an operation to be performed this week. Their son, Gaylord, also had the same type of blood and was to give blood for another transfusion following the operation if it was found necessary. All occupants of the McCrackin car, Mr. and Mrs. McCrackin and their 3 little girls were bruised and one child probably 7 or 8 years old was picked up behind the McCrackin car (still holding her dolly). Five stitches were required to close a gash in her face and she was apparently suffering chest injuries besides the badly bruised face and body. All were cared for at the Goodsell home, at the time, the McCrackins were returning to their home on M57 about 1/2 mile east of the Bushnell Bloomer town line road. Mr. Lutz's body was removed to the Stebbins undertaking rooms at Sheridan. Due to Mrs. Lutz's serious condition it was undecided at the time as to whether she would be told of her husband's death. Mr. Lutz was conscious part of the time as he spoke his daughter Helen's name when she arrived at his bedside. Surviving are two daughters, Doris a freshman in Carson City high school, Mrs. Wayne Middleton; teacher in the Miller school district and one son Gaylord at home, the wife, the former Elsie Reeder, a sister, Mrs. Iva Cole of Detroit and four brothers, Dick and Merle of Lansing; Harvey of Detroit and Harry of Pontiac. Funeral services will be held at the Vickeryville church this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.
