RANDOLPH, farmer, section 33, Denver Township, was born on the island of Martinicus(?) in the Atlantic Ocean, Nov. 27, 1818. His parents were Walter and Joanna (Hall) Randolph; father was born in London , England, and mother in Maine, where they resided until their death. When Charles was three months old he was brought to the mainland, and lived at home, in MOntville, Waldo Co., Me., until he was 14 years old, when his father moved to Penobscot County. Here he remained until his 21st year, then entered school. After completing his education he engaged in the lumbering business on the Penobscot River, remaining until the summer of 1843, when he returned home and purchased 200 acres of land in the town of Aetna, upon which he built a house. Dec. 17, 1844, he married Miss Elizabeth C. Moore, daughter of John and Hannah (chapman) Moore, natives of Maine, who was born in Edgecomb, Lincoln Co., Maine, Nov. 13, 1818. Mr. and Mrs. Randolph settled on the new farm, where they lived until 1849, then moved to Luzerne Co., Pa., where Mr. R. was engaged in lumbering until 1855. Then they returned to their former home, where Mrs. Randolph tarried for one year, and her husband came to Newaygo, this county, and worked in the mills for a few months. The followin gyear his wife came, and they went to keeping house in Newaygo. In February, 1860, they moved upon a farm of 80 acres, where he now resides, and which at that time was a dense forest.
