SCHROEDER, farmer, section 1, Barton Township, was born in Germany, March 16, 1840, and is the son of Frederick and Mary Schroeder. He was reared and educated in his native country, and came to the United States when 26 years old. He settled at Grand Rapids, where he remained 14 years engaged in blacksmithing. In 1874, he came to Newaygo County and purchased 40 acres of land in Barton Township, where he has since occupied his time in improving and cultivating his land. He was married in his native country, in 1866, to Dorothea, daughter of Frederick and Dorothea (Podine) Walter, natives of Germany.
