PETER SWANE to play for Blues COUNCIL CLOSES YEAR’S ACTIVITES Comes time once more to bid a fond farewell to R.H.S. As is the custom each year, all adieus will be said at the annual “Farewell Blues”. This year’s dance promises to be the best yet. Music will be furnished by an eight piece orchestra under the capable direction of PETER SWANE. Dancing will be from 9 ‘til 1 and admission charge is .30 cents per stag. The decorations will be flowers and posters advertising the previous activities of R.H.S. students. Plans for this last farewell are being completed by the general committee: DENNIS YOUNGBLOOD, M.J. TOLES, MARILYN NASH, SHIRLEY KING, and VIRGINIA KAGE. The alumni are cordially invited to this last dance sponsored by the Student Council. See you tonight at 9. CLASS OF “42” HOLD FAREWELL BANQUET The Seniors of R.H.S. were feeling happy Wednesday night as they got together for their last party as a class in school. They started out the evening with a delicious chicken dinner at the Birmingham Community House. Immediately following the dinner they presented their sponsors, MISS RIBBINK, MISS CLELLAND, and MISS McINTYRE, with a beautiful set of airplane luggage. The luggage is of light beige color bound in brown leather and on each is the inscribed initials of the owner. After dinner, president CARL TURSKA called a short business meeting to decide what would be done with the cash remaining in the treasure, and it was very wisely distributed, too, seniors. $75 will go to the library for new books, $50 will be given to the alumni funds, which by the way, is to insure a banquet for next years seniors. Then the remainder of the money will be used for a reunion of the of “42” in “43”. Proceeding the meeting the toastmaster, ED KAGE, introduced two speaker who were MR. MUSSON and MR. ENGBRETSON. The rest of the evening was spent by listening to the delightful songs by three of the girls sextet and also by the heretofore unknown boys sextet. Dancing ended the reluctant farewell. Page 2 FACAULTY WHEREABOUTS --- Certainly is true that vacation time comes slowly for the facaulty members as well as students body! We find that many of them have definite plans – some loafing and others with their aim to further educations MR ENGBRETSON, if not marching, will behind a plow up at his farm at Wild Rose, Wisconsin, hoeing in the potatoes, chasing cows, or feeding the pigs. Which sounds better? MISS. JOHNSTON plans to spend the next few weeks in Detroit and the rest of the summer in the grand lake country of north eastern Michigan. Sounds fun! MISS TURNER will be very busy selling life insurance for the Mutual Trust Life Insurance Company. MR. CHRISTLIEB, one of our very ambitious teachers, is attending Summer Session. MISS CUMMINGS in northern part of Michigan vacationing at Harbor Springs. By the way, her telephone number is 7. MISS BRUHNS is looking ahead to her comfortable cottage near Ann Arbor. Swimming too! MR. KENNEDY –“On the job with perhaps two weeks vacation”. MAXINE SCOTT has pleasure in waiting for something exciting to happen. MISS CLELLAND at Fairmont, West Virginia taking it easy. MISS BECKER has high hopes of working. MISS McINTYRE will be at home in Jackson. MR. MUSSON claims to keep the home fires burning. MISS SONNENBERG shall keep herself busy while studying birds to add to her now large knowledge of the specia. MISS WEBSTER, MISS PORTER and MR. ROSSI will not return next year. WE’LL MISS YOU So long, Grands. We’re going to miss you here at R.H.S. Thinking back over the past year, we recall how hard you worked from the very beginning selling “cokes” at dances and clever pencils with basketball schedules written on them. During the last semester you were really busy with the production of your unforgettable play “Little Women” and plans for the Senior Prom, which we’re sure that everyone keeps in his private memory box. To mention all you’ve done for our school would be hard. Your generous gifts to us – the ultra ray lamp, and the $75.00 book fund for the library – are to be greatly appreciated and made use of in future years. You have not been selfish in what you’ve given. All we can hope is that you make good whatever vocation you chose and that your future will be a most happy one. His opponent, WILLARD READING, reached the finals after victories over DON PECK, KENT ROSENQUIST and a default. PATTERSON advanced to the second round after defeating CHAPMAN in the first. DeFRAYNE won the first round on a default, beat FITZPATRICK the second round, and then met BRAGA. VANDEN BERGHE won the first round on a default, as did ROSENQUIST. ROSENQUIST won from VANDER BERGHE in the second round and then lost to READING. The doubles tournament didn’t amount to much this year, as READING and BRAGA won this entirely on defaults. The final match between BRAGA and READING will be played this weekend. MARILYN NASH WINS GIRL TENNIS With all the preliminary matches having been played off by the thirty girls who entered this year’s tennis tournament, the semi-finals were begun last week. Figuring in the semi-finals were MARILY NASH and BETTE NASH, who vied with each other for a place in the finals. The result of this match was MARILYN willing, 6-4, 6-1. PEG SHUELLER and JEANNE MOORE were scheduled to play off their match, but being unable to play, JEANNE had to forfeit. This moved MARILYN and PEG into the final match, with MARILYN coming out victor over all. Great going PEG, and congratulations MARILYN!
