He came to Michigan with his widowed mother in his boyhood days and spent the remainder of his life in this community. For eighteen years he resided in this village before returning to his farm near Oakwood eight years ago. Fraternally he was a member of Oxford lodge F. & A.M. No. 84 and the Eastern Star and was also a member of the Oakwood Methodist church for forty years. Mr. Banta was married to Miss Elva Van wagoner, October 24, 1878, who preceded him in death forty-one years ago. To this union were born seven children; four of which remain to mourn his loss, Arie, of Chicago; Wm. Jr. of Pontiac; Mrs. Heber Beardslee, of Seymour Lake, and Miss Edna at home. Ten grandchildren and two half sisters, Miss Elsie Wileden of Santa Monica California and Miss Huldah Wileden, of Oxford. Funeral services were held at the farm home Tuesday, January 27th with Rev. Ostrander, of Ortonville, officiating, with burial at the Oxford Cemetery.
