All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Pardo mpardo@direcway.com August 15, 2005, 11:03 pm (Oxford Leader, 12 Feb 1920) The flu epidemic of 1920 claimed the lives of several members of this family Mrs. Jake Drahner and Albert Jewell Mrs. Jake Drahner, age 61 years, died at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jewell, northeast of this village, where she had gone to take care of the entire family, five in all, who were ill with the influenza, when she contracted the disease, dying Monday Feb. 9th. As no help could be secured to look after the afflicted family during the trying hours, Mr. Jewell who had not fully recovered from his illness, arose thinking it was his duty to administer care to the rest of the family was stricken with pneumonia, dying Tuesday. Jewell was about 35 years of age, and was one of North Oxford's prosperous farmers. He is survived by a wife and three children who are dangerously ill at this writing; also two sisters, Mrs. Frank Hibbler and Mrs. William Brode, and a brother ... A double funeral was held Wednesday at 10:30 o'clock from the Whitcomb Chapel, Rev. T.D. Denman officiating. The remains were placed in the Dennison vault.
