ELLIOTT IS DEAD Harry S. Elliott, Commissioner of Schools for Oakland County, is dead at his home in Oxford. Death relieved Mr. Elliott of his long suffering at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday, and came very quietly. Ha has been ill for six months with pernicious anemia and lost his strength gradually. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made. Harry S. Elliot was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1858, but was reared at Oxford, where he was brought at the age of four years by his parents James and Lucy Elliott. He was educated in Davisburg Schools and in Pontiac high School. After completing his education, he commenced teaching and successfully taught schools at Clyde,Waterford and Oxford,for 23 years. In 1899 he was chosen County School commissioner which he has held since that time. His whole life was devoted to school interests, and few citizens were better or more favorably known throughout the county. His work required a great amount of energy and executive ability. He had under his care 207 schools which is the largest number of any county in the state. with an average attendance of something like 4000 pupils outside of the Pontiac Schools. Mr.Elliott married a daughter of Chas. Stevens of Livingston County. One daughter ,Miss Josephine with the widow,Survives. Politically Mr. Elliott was identified with the Republican Party and served in a number of Official capacities usually of an educational character. He was one of the leading members of the Michigan Teachers Reading circle. Fraternally, the deceased was a prominent Mason. Belonging to the Blue Lodge and and chapter of Oxford. He was also a member of the Loyal Guards, Foresters of America and the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Oxford.
