Van Wagoner, aged 91 years well known strawberry grower, died at 3 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Claude Van Wagoner, in Wilson township. Mr. Van Wagoner's death was due to infirmities of age. Mr. Van Wagoner was born Feb 14, 1847 in Brandon Township, Oakland County, Michigan where he lived until 1900, when he came to Alpena County, locating in Wilson Township. Besides regular farming, he was first in Alpena County who commenced to raise strawberries for commercial purposes. His business grew to large proportions and the Van Wagoner strawberries became well know over the state and keenly desired for their fine, high quality. His first wife died in 1895 and in 1903 he was married to Mrs. Mary Brown, who died in 1934. Surviving Mr. Van Wagoner are four sons, Claude of Wilson, William of Davison, Otto of Curran, Cassius of Chesaning. A daughter Mrs. Carrie Evans died 8 years ago. William M. Brown 902 Washington Avenue is a step-son. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Claude Van Wagoner and at 2:30 at the Free Methodist Church.
