Martha J. Van Wagoner
Martha J. Van Wagoner was born in the township of Oxford, May 19th, 1835, and
died at Attica, Lapeer County, Before, 21, 1901 on the day of her fortieth
wedding anniversary, aged 85 years, 9 months, and two days.  She was united in
marriage to Mr. Thurlow L. Pierce, Feb. 21, 1861. She was the mother of six
children five of whom are living.  The children were all with her at the time of
her death.  She was confined to her bed with illness from which she never
recovered.  At the time of her husband's departure, she was carried to his
bedside and there they clasped hands bidding each other farewell, knowing that
they would soon be reunited in their Father's house.  The remains of Mrs. Pierce
were brought to this village and the funeral was conducted at the Congregational
Church, Feb. 25th, rev. Snyder conducted the funeral rites assisted by Rev.
Reiley.   (Oxford MI Leader 1 Mar 1901)
