Pierce Departed this life, January 28, 1901, Thurlow L. Pierce, one of Attica's most respected citizens. Mr. Pierce was born in Royalston, Mass., Oct. 11, 1831, was then brought to Orion, Oakland County, and settled on section 15 where they lived till the death of his parents. His mother died June 22, 1874, and his father died march 28, 1878. They were both laid to rest in Oxford Cemetery. They lived the last few years of their lives with their two sons, Thurlow and Geo. The deceased was married to Miss Martha Jane Van Wagoner February 21, 1861. She was born in Oxford May 19, 1835, and was one of the first white children born in the township. The deceased was the father of five children. All are living and were at his bedside through his sickness and death. They, together with their bereaved mother deeply mourn their loss. There are also two brothers and four sisters left, all living in Oxford except J.S. Pierce of Detroit and Minerva of Indiana. The deceased farmed in company with his brother, George till 1880. They sold their farm and moved to Oxford village, where he lived four years. Thence he moved to a farm in Thomas, thence to Metamora, thence to Attica, where he has lived a good many years. He was supervisor of the township of Oxford two years, was master of the Oxford Masonic Lodge No. 81 F. & A. M. for several years and held many offices of trust and honor. He was a kind and sympathetic father, a loving and devoted husband, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. the funeral services were held in the Congregational Church in Oxford and were conducted by the Masonic fraternity, who deserve great credit for the respect shown their deceased brother.
