Sand, in Ortonville. James Van Wagoner was born at Stoney Creek, Aug 24 1831 and at the age of five years moved with his parents, Michael and Mary Van Wagoner to the township of Oxford on the farm owned by Fred Van Wagoner. He was married to Miss Susan Bishop July 15 1857. They first commenced their early life at Fenton and after a few years they moved back to Brandon on the farm known as the Isaac Benedict farm now owned by E. Perry, and later sold out and bought a farm and live there for several years. Over a year ago he and his wife moved to Ortonville to live with their daughter. to this union were born four children, three daughters and one son. Two daughters, Libbie and Minnie died in infancy. He leaves to mourn a wife, one daughter, Mrs. L.A. Sand of Ortonville, and one son Edwin of Bentley, Mich. and one brother E.C. Van Wagoner of Oxford besides a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral was held at the house Feb 26 at 2 o'clock Rev. Hinyeman officiating. Internment in Ortonville cemetery.
