She was the youngest of a family of six children and for many years the only surviving member of that family. At an early age she came to Mich. with her parents who settled in Highland, Oakland Co. On Feb. 1st 1857, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Van Wagoner, and came with him to Oxford, where she spent the greater part of the remainder of her life. Of the three children born to them, two are living, one son, George, having died in infancy. In early girlhood she confessed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist Church. her Christian life was marked with kindness to others and earnest devotion to the cause of Christ. She leaves to mourn, two daughters, Mrs. Effie E. Drahner, of Oxford, Mrs. Evelyn A. Hughes, of Parma, Mich.; Three step children, Mrs. Ester Van Wagoner, of Oxford, Wm. K. Van Wagoner, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Clark Van Wagoner of Oxford, besides other relatives and friends. She was permitted to live the allotted "three score years and ten" and even beyond the "four score years" spending the time in usefulness and to good purpose, yet this comparatively long life was but short impression on our minds that we are soon "Cut off and fly away." The end came peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Drahner. The funeral was held, Thursday, July 18, at the Oxford Baptist Church, Rev. Burnett, of Pontiac officiating. The remains were laid at rest beside her husband in the Oxford Cemetery.
