MRs. WAKEFIELD DIES IN COUNTY Another Aitkin pioneer passed on Sunday morning when Mrs. Florence V. Wakefield, widow of Joseph W. Wakefield, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Feero in the vicinity of Rabey at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Wakefield was born in Waterford, Oakland county, Michigan, May 23, 1850 and came to Minnesota when this section of the state was sparsely settled. She experienced all the hardships incident to those years, but led an active life, was kindhearted, cheerful and gathered about her friends whose esteem she held all her days. Her life with her daughter was serene and a beautiful spirit of understanding and companionship existed between them They were in Aitkin early in the fall when the mother assured her friends she was in excellent health. Bronchitis caused her death. When Mr. Wakefield, one of the prominent loggers in an early day, retired from business he, and Mrs. Wakefield went to Rabey to make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Ferro. Mr. Wakefield died seven years ago. Mrs. Wakefield's only son, Wm. Sickner, died in May 1931. Mrs. Feero was her only daughter. There are thirteen grandchildren, a brother and two sisters living in Detroit, Mich. At the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon funeral services were held with the Rev. Martin Johnson, pastor of the Presbyterian church Tamarack, officiating, assisted by Rev. Wm. P. Kelts. A choir composed of Mrs. Sidney Forster, Mrs. Theo. Oien, F.E. Randall and O.S. Hartman sang three hymns with Mrs. A.L. Hamilton as organist. Burial was in the family lot in Lakeview cemetery. Pall bearers were long time friends of Mrs. Wakefield and her family and included A.A. Sweetman, A. Zeese, Ian Kane, E.N. Rogers, John Mac Donald and Peter Larson. Relatives attending the last service were: Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Feero, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Feero of Rabey, Mrs. Minnie Sickner, Kenneth and Willard Sickner of Duluth, Mrs. Helen Sickner Bower of Coquet. Among the out of town friends were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schadegg of Bemidji, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson of Rabey.
