Fleming, former editor of the Rose City Review and postmaster at Rose City where he resided for the past 35 years, were held at Shelby, Michigan following his death in the Saginaw Veterans Hospital on January 30, after an illness of three months. Born in Perry, Michigan on February 9, 1868, Mr. Fleming was a member of the first graduating class of the Shelby High School. He attended Ferris Institute, Olivet College and Michigan State Teachers College of Ypsilanti before starting on a varied career in the teaching field. He also served as County School Commissioner of Oceana County between the years of 1903 and 1907. In 1932 he received the high honor of having an honorary membership in the National Education Association bestowed upon him. In addition to his activities in the teaching profession he edited the Walkerville News, the Prescott Journal and the Rose City Review. A veteran of the Spanish American War, burial rites at the grave in Mt. Hope cemetery, Shelby, were conducted by the Shelby American Legion Post. On October 25, 1900 Eddy Fleming and Bessie Holt, of Walkerville were united in marriage. To this union, two daughters and two sons all of whom survive were born. Besides his wife, Bessie, their two sons, Quentin and Llewellyn of Detroit and the two daughters Mrs. Gwendolyn Wilson of Saginaw and Mrs. Carola Duncan of Birmingham, he is survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
