FOR SGT. JAS. GARDNER Last Rites Marked by Full Military Honors Funeral services for Sergeant James E. Gardner, 62, a former resident of West Branch for a few years, and the husband of the former Mrs. Margaret Zimmer Vincent, were held Thursday afternoon, March 13, from the Steuernol Funeral Chapel, with full military honors accorded by Ogemaw Post No. 103 of the American Legion, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Burial took place in Brookside cemetery. Sergeant James Edward Gardner was born in Rhode Island and served thirty years in the U. S. Marine Coprs, retiring in 1925. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and the first World War, and married Mrs. Vincent in West Branch in 1931. He left West Branch six years later because of ill health and had resided at Washington, D. C., ever since, where for the past year and a half he was confined at St. Elizabeth's hospital. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Gardner.
