The aged man had been ailing for over a year but his death was sudden and unexpected. Funeral services were held at the Steuernol Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 9. Rev. Warren Ware, pastor of the First Methodist Church, was the officiating clergyman. Interment was in the Selkirk Cemetery. Mr. Griffith was born in Blenheim Township, Oxford County, Ontario on September 7, 1850 the son of Elizebeth and Cyrus Griffith. When he was 11 years old he and his family moved to Colchester and he lived there until he was 28. On November 20, 1879, Mr. Griffith and his brother George came to West Branch. They bought a farm at Campbells Corners and in 1880 their father moved to the same area. In 1881 Mr. Griffith bought the farm now owned by Phillip Wangler and a year later took his bride, Bertha Underwood, there to live. They had six daughters, but two of them, Elizabeth and Ethel preceded him in death. Since the death of Mrs. Griffith in 1935, Mr. Griffith had made his home with his oldest daughter, Mrs. Hillier. Besides Mrs. Hillier, Mr. Griffith is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Phronia Parliament and Mrs. Byrde Broberg of West Branch, and Mrs. Ida Wilber of Detroit. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Griffith of Rose City, six grand-children and six great grand-children also survive. Pallbearers were DeVere Parliament, Guy Fairchild, Paul Keniston, Maynard Noris and Ray Coultier, his grandsons, and Edward Cleary, a nephew.
