McKenna, former sheriff of Ogemaw county, was buried yesterday afternoon in funeral services from the Prescott Baptist church. McKenna, 59 years old, died Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in his hotel room at Ludington where he was attending the 68th annual convention of the Michigan State Firemen’s association. He was widely known throughout Michigan fire and police circles through his 12 years service as a deputy fire marshal. Coroner Ben F. Albms, of Ludington, said that the cause of death was heart disease. During his early life, before coming to his farm at Prescott, he was engaged in the lumbering industry in northern Michigan where he learned to handle men as an executive. He was elected sheriff of Ogemaw county in 1922 and served four years. His personality made him one of the most popular sheriffs that ever served the people of Ogemaw. Murray McKenna was an esteemed citizen, and the memory of his life will linger long with the many people whom he served during his very useful life. He was attending the Ludington convention in the capacity of chief investigator for the state fire marshal. He was a member of the State Fire Chief’s Association, Southeastern Firemen’s association and United Spanish War Veterans. McKenna was outstanding in Masonic circles, where he attained the high 32nd degree honors. Survivors include a stepson, Harlow Gillings of Prescott; a brother, J. H. McKenna of Grand Rapids, and a sister.
