Benj. F. Gooch, continued, from page 287.  (The following items, concerning 
Mr. G.'s brothers, came too late for 

insertion in the proper place.)  Amos Gooch volunteered, at Milwaukee, Wis., 
for the Mexican War, was in Gen. Wool's 

Brigade, and died in his country's service at Puebla, Mexico, July 30, 1847.  
In the great War of the Rebellion Mr. 

Gooch had four brothers, besides himself!  Charles enlisted in the 14th w. Va. 
Vol., at Mannington, Marion County, and 

was killed at Winchester, Va., near Harper's Ferry.  Horace enlisted in the 
sixth Mich. Cav. at Grand Rapids, and was 

killed July 14, 1863, in Major Weber's charge at Falling Water, Mo.  John 
volunteered in the Michigan Regiment of 

Engineers and Mechanics, served his time and was honorably discharged.  and 
still another brother volunteered in the 

12th Regulars, was wounded and taken prisoner, served his time of enlistment 
and received an honorable discharge.  Six 

brothers in one family!

Scarcely another family in the whole State of Michigan can make such an 
exhibit of patriotism as that.  Here are deeds 

that speak louder than words, giving evidence of a self-sacrificing heroism 
not describale in words; and all the 

surviving brothers still "vote as they shot" by a firm adhesion to the 
principles upon which the Republican party was 

founded.
