In September, 1870, his father moved the family of seven children to Michigan, settling in the woods south of Grand Haven in Olive Twp. The father died the following January, leaving Samuel, the oldest, as the sole support of his mother and siblings. He married September 5, 1878 to Miss Anna M. Gibbs [d/o Charles Tomlinson Gibbs and Hannah Walsh]. They had two children; Samuel Burton who died two years ago and Emma J. Surviving are his widow, his daughter, Mrs. John Borchers of Nunica; three sisters; Mrs. Martha Clark of Ellsworth, Mrs. Fannie Sparrow of Des Moines, and Mrs. Elizabeth Estelle of Grand Rapids; two brothers, John W. of Ozark and Bas Dell of Grand Rapids. Burial was in Spring Lake Cemetery. Additional Comments: Charles and Hannah Walsh Gibbs are my gggg grandparents.
