He was the son of Abraham Dumas and spent his childhood and youth in the area he was born. His mother died when he was young. He came to and settled in Coopersville in 1880. Later he moved to Nunica where he lived on a farm. After the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Margaret Dickenson in 1893 and moved back to Coopersville. He was survived by his wife and adopted son [Warren], son, Herman Dumas of Nunica; daughter, Mrs. Herbert [Nettie] McMann; daughter Mrs. Fred [Gertrude "Gertie"] Nelthorpe, both of Muskegon. He was a member of Coopersville Lodge #876 and Bartholomew Post # 136, having served throughout the Civil War in Co. H. Regulars, 3rd NY Calvary. [wrong-see note] Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Odd Fellows Hall. Additional Comments: Blinn Marshal Dumas was born in Pierpont, NY, the son of Abraham Dumas aka Abram Dumas and Lucinda Prior. He married by August 10, 1870, NY[prob. St. Lawrence Co.] to Melissa Emelina Ives aka Emma Ives, the daughter of Anson Ives and Harriet "Jenette" Beach. "Emma" was born March 10, 1848, Edwards, St. Lawrence Co., NY [Edwards Birth records] and died August 19, 1891, Crockery Twp., Ottawa Co., MI at age 44y 1m 0d of poison.[Ottawa Co. death records] Blinn and Emma had a unnamed baby daughter born July 1891, Crockery Twp., Ottawa Co. and died September 21, 1891, Crockery Twp.[Ottawa Co. Death records]. They moved to MI from Edwards, St. Lawrence Co., NY in the last half of 1880 with Emma's parents. Her brother and sister, Chauncey Ives and Anna Eliza Ives had moved to Nunica and Coopersville in the mid 1850's. Chauncey Ives is my 3rd great grandfather. Blinn is buried in Section 14 of the Coopersville Cemetery. Headstone says: Co. C, 13th NY Calvalry. I found records of his enlistment which gave the name of both parents, his middle name, his birthdate and regiment which agrees to what it says on his headstone. There are no headstones right next to him.
