She was born February 2, 1823 in Summerset, Niagara County, NY, the second child of William and Miranda HERRINGTON. She was one of 10 children, of whom five survive; two sisters and three brothers. Her parents came to Michigan in 1836 and settled near the head waters of Grand River, then a wilderness and where Jackson now stands. Her ancestors were of revolutionary stock and many of their names mark the time-worn stones in New York, Vermont, and Rhode Island. In May, 1845, she came with her brother's family to Grand Rapids and there she married December 2, 1845 to James FOSGET, the Rev. Mr. Fitch of the M. E. Church performing the ceremony. They resided in Grand Rapids and Grandville until July 18, 1848, when they moved to Crockery Twp. and during this time they had eight children. September, 1863, they moved to Wright Twp. and settled on a farm which was then known as the Lillie settlement. After their children were grown and had families and homes of their own, they moved to Coopersville in December 1886, where she remained until a short time before her death which came after a short illness at the the home of her son, Ralph FOSGET in Grand Rapids, whom she had gone to visit. Funeral services were held at her home in Coopersville June 23rd.
