She was born in Grand Haven. When she was seven, the Pennoyer family moved to the farm in Crockery, here she attended school in the Lawrence District. Later, she attended college with her sistaers at Fox Lake, Wisconsin to prepare for teaching, which was her chosen work in Ottawa Co. She married September 5, 1875 to Joseph GIBBS, who died July 19, 1906. They had 3 children: Mrs. Burt DELL of Hammond, Ind; Minnie GiBBS, who died in her young womanhood; and C. W. GIBBS, who with his family, lived with the deceased. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. C. P. ROEST of Grand Rapids; Mrs. L. M. PHELPS of Oswego, Oregon; Henry PENNOYER of Nenana, Alaska, and Fred A. of Fruitport. She was a member of the Gibbs Rebekah Lodge and Lady Maccabees. Funeral services were held Monday, September 28 at the home.
