GIBBS was born September 29, 1861 in Polkton Twp., one in a family of twelve children and the youngest daughter of Charles T. GIBBS and Hannah WALSH, early pioneers who settled here in 1836, building their home in what was then a wilderness. Her early days were spent in the area and she later attended public school in Nunica. She married February 28, 1880 in Fruitport to Bas DELL of Muskegon, where they made their home. Later, Bas became connected with the Grand Trunk Railroad and they lived at Nunica, Coopersville, and Ferrysburg. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Nunica and taught Sunday School for several years. She had a kind and affectionate disposition and she was beloved by all who knew her. She was a member of the Lady Maccabees and the Order of the Eastern Star. The family had resided at 119 Burr Oak St, Grand Rapids for several years and on February 28, 1930, their golden anniverary was celebrated there in Grand Rapids. After having failing health for several years, she passed away on April 12, 1934, leaving her husband; daughter, Mrs. Ethel KNUTSON at home; son, Harry B. DELL of Durand; sister, Mrs. Samuel DELL of Nunica, and brother, James A. GIBBS of Albion, to mourn her. Funeral services were held at the home and she was laid to rest at Spring Lake Cemetery in the family plot.
