Coopersville Observer, April 13, 1894
  Joseph Walling died March 22, 1894 in Lamont at the age of 87.
  Joseph Walling was born July 6, 1807 in Monmouth Co., NJ and was the 
youngest of nine children.  When he was five, the family moved to Lyons, Wayne 
Co., NY, a country very new and sparsely settled.  When he was 25, he married 
Miss Eliza BURCH, sister of the late Lewis BURCH and Mrs. Charles ALFORD.  
Mrs. Walling died in October of 1890. They had 9 children, but only three 
survive - Elihu, Millard and Mrs. George BATEMAN.  Mr. Walling converted in 
1840 and with his wife, joined the Baptist Church.  They moved to Michigan in 
1853, settling in the village which has since been his home.  There was no 
Baptist Church in Lamont so he joined the Congregational Church of which he 
has been a longtime member.
