Man Witnesses Fire On Friday Dies Suddenly.
John Zylstra died very suddenly at his home, 16 East McKinley St., last Friday 
night at about 10:30 o'clock. death was due to heart trouble. He attained the 
age of fifty years.
He had suffered from heart trouble for some time but was not considered to be 
in poor condition. Together with other members of his family he had been to 
witness the fire that destroyed the old Wagnaar building, and had visited the 
home of his son after that, where he had eaten a light lunch before returning 
home. Upon returning home he retired immediately, and ten minutes later Mrs. 
Zylstra discovered him breathing heavily. He died not respond when she spoke 
to him and when she had secured a light he had already died. He had probably 
over-exerted himself in going to and from the fire.
Mr. Zylstra came to Zeeland about three years ago from Charlevoix where had 
lived on a farm thirty-two years, and he was employed in the Bay view 
Furniture factory in Holland at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow Mary and seven children, eleven grandchildren, and 
one sister. The children are Cornelius Zylstra, Maple Street, Zeeland, Mrs. 
Hattie Veenstra, of Charlevoix; Mrs Nellie Gillette of Zeeland; Mrs Jennie 
Reamsma Grand Rapids; Mrs Alice Doctor, Grand Rapids; Clara and Mildred at 
home. His sister is Miss Alice Zylstra of Grand Rapids, formerly of Zeeland.
The funeral services were held at the home and at the First Reformed church on 
Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. Van Peursem officiating. Interment was made in 
Zeeland cemetery.
