Dutch Emigration records show that Marinus was a poor laborer ("behoeftijen" meaning impoverished and "arbeider" meaning laborer") and a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, who emigrated with a wife and three children in order to join relatives in America. These same records list his age as being 45 years old. He immigrated on 27 NOV 1865 to to New York from the Netherlands via Liverpool, ENG.. Jannetje KRYGSMAN was born on 17 DEC 1822 in the Netherlands. She immigrated in 1848 to to Holland Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. She appeared on the census in 1850 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. She died on 20 NOV 1900 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. She was also known as Jennie Krigjsman, Jan & Johanna. Her name appears as "Jan" in the list of original pioneers to Holland, MI. She is called "Johanna" in the 1850 census. The name Jennie is used in her son Jacob's death record. She was married to Jacob VAN PUTTEN Sr. in 1849 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. Jacob's marriage to Jannetje was performed by Rev. Van Raalte. At the time, Jacob was 28 and Jannetje was 26 years old. Jacob VAN PUTTEN Sr. was born on 7 SEP 1820 in the Netherlands. He immigrated in 1849 to to Holland Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. He died on 18 NOV 1894. Jacob and his wife Jannetje appear to have traveled back to the Netherlands and returned to the United States 16 July 1873. THIRD GENERATION 8. Adriaan KAASHOEK was born on 1 FEB 1843 in St Maarrtensdijk, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands. He immigrated in 1886 to to New York City, arriving 25 June 1886.. He was married to Fora BOLIER in the Netherlands. Fora BOLIER was born on 17 AUG 1860 in Scherpenisse, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands. She died in SEP 1948. 13. Marinus KAASHOEK was born on 21 APR 1860 in St. Maartensdijk, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands. 14. Dena KRIJGSMAN was born on 22 MAR 1860 in Zeeland, Netherlands. Her 1882 marriage records gave her age as 21 and the 1884 census gives her age as 23 years of age. She immigrated on 27 NOV 1865 to to Michigan. On the 1900 census it shows that Dena immigrated to the US in 1870, a date which "must" be wrong. She appeared on the census on 10 JUN 1884 in Holland Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. At the time of the census she lived with her husband and two children next to her father and step-mother's home. She appeared on the census in JUN 1900 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. In this census Den__ is described as the wife of Peter Howard (household #174). She was a 30 year old female, born in Mch 1870. She had been married for 19 years, was the mother of 6 children - 3 of whom survived at the time of the census. Dena and both of her parents were from the Netherlands, having (supposedly) immigrated to the United States in 1870 and lived here 30 years. The census indicates that she could not read, write or speak English. She appeared on the census in 1910 in Ottawa County, Michigan. She died on 17 JUN 1919 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. Most records show that Dena was born in the Netherlands. Her own "death record" shows her birthplace as being in the Netherlands. However, on her son Fred Howard's Certificate of Death her birthplace is given as Park Twp., Ottawa Co., Mich. On the ship passenger lists, during her family's immigration, she is listed as "Iloneke." Her descendent, Bob Howard, remembers that Dena was called "Tona" (also spelt "Tanne"), a dutch word reportedly meaning "aunt". This is also the name given during the 1880 census in Holland, MI. Her 1882 marriage record gives her name as Dena. The 1884 census gives her name as Tannetje. On the 1888 Death Records of her two sons both give her name as Janetje. She was married to Peter HOWARD (son of Isaac HOWARD (BOOMHOUR) and Jane DAVIS) on 26 JUN 1882 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan.. 15. (Aaltje) Alke KRIJGSMAN was born about 1863 in Holland, Netherlands. She immigrated in 1865. The ship's records list this person as being a male child named "Alke" who was under the age of three. She was married to John H. PAUELS on 18 MAY 1879 in Ottawa County, Michigan. 16. Petronella (Pietje N.) (Nellie) KRIJGSMAN was born about 1864/65 in Holland, Netherlands. She immigrated on 27 NOV 1865. Immigration records list her as being about one year old when she immigrated in 1865. She appeared on the census in 1880 in Holland Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. She was married to Henry KAMPERMAN in 1887 in Ottawa County, Michigan. 23. Jacob VAN PUTTEN was born between 15 SEP 1855 and 1865 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. He died on 12 APR 1932 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. Christina VAN RAALTE (daughter of A.C. VAN RAALTE and Heleana (?) HOFFMAN) was born on 9 JUN 1861 in Michigan. One of his books lists the name of the ship and one of the other books does not. These books cover the time period from around 1840 to 1880. After 1880 records were destroyed but Swierenga is compiling books for individual years since 1880. He has released one for 1888 and another for (I think) 1882.
