Saginaw, Mich., July 1 - The family of Andrew Wilber, consisting of father and mother and four children, reside on Randolph street, there being two daughters in the family, Maud, aged 14, and Edith, aged 11. About a month ago Mrs. Wilber was taken ill and went to St. Mary's hospital for treament. Wilber was employed at Tindle & Jackson's stave mill and remained at home with his family nights. Three or four days after the mother went to the hospital, Wilber, it is alleged, criminally assaulted Maud, the oldest girl, using force and threatening to kill her in order to accomplish his puspose. He also attempted an assault upon Edith, but failed. He repeatedly threatened both of the girls with dire results in case they revealed the crime. The mother returned home last week and Friday night overheard the father threatening the older girl. She questioned the child and the latter told the story, which resulted in a quarrel between the husband and wife. He left home stating that he would not live with them any longer. Securing a bottle of laudanum, he went to the Pere Marquette belt line bridge, where it is supposed he swallowed the contents of the bottle and dropped into the river. An inquest will be held today over the remains. Wilber was about 45 years old.
